A couple of excellent placed runs yesterday from Johnny B (was well backed about 30 mins after we posted due to a Twitter based service) and Animato especially and a decent effort from Stockdale who did everything but win. Perhaps the best efforts though came from a couple who didn't deliver any "net profit" with Houston Texas making a very bold show as rank outsider at Perth just missing out on the first 3 home and Townhill Penny an eye catcher at 40/1 just out of the places in Ireland. The aim... [Read More]

We were a shade unlucky not to have a nice 11/1 winner at Huntingdon yesterday with Est Ilic just wandering about in front and needing the line but finishing an eventual runner up. Euchan Falls was also a runner up, although more comprehensively beaten by the race favourite at 12/1 at Perth where City Derby finished an enhanced 4th at 9/1 having been well backed in from an advised 20/1 and quietly fancied. So all in all some nice solid each way results there. The disappointing race was... [Read More]

A couple of nice winners yesterday with KIllinure Lass at 25/1 SP and Eclair de Guye at 11/2 SP, a narrow miss too for the eternal bridesmaid Good Work and a place too for Beauty Choice. It was nice to get the big priced winner that I hope proved that the refined process of fewer tips in more races, when the suitable races are available, can optimise the benefit of the winner, especially to level staking.  We will continue to refine and tweak and there will be a bit about Betting Bank ... A couple of places at Gowran Park yesterday including an enhanced one and a few near misses where we just missed an enhanced place. I think it's going to be very important though in the coming days to do a dedicated piece about "punter mentality and psychology" linked to the Betting Bank piece as we change direction, in fact back somewhat to our roots of seeking big priced value and having the ethos "if we can't win don't lose" by generating net profit from big priced place horses. It's easy to ... [Read More]

We have 5 races to consider today, three of them get fuller analysis and a couple of selections in each, and another couple of races when analysed had a clear top rated and at decent each way Odds. As mentioned yesterday we want to consider more races now that we have Afternoon and Evening Fixtures but with fewer tips per race and only more than one tip in races where there are enhanced places to fourth or more. On occasions we will give a top 3 in preference order IF enhancements go t... [Read More]

We are going to start our transition to the promised new formats from today in preparation for the full launch next Monday. This requires some changes to the website and Members Paddock which are almost complete and which will reopen on Wednesday. The fact that there are 6 meetings today covering Turf Flat and National Hunt in the UK and Ireland and a fair number of handicaps with field sizes from 10 to 16, some afternoon and evening racing, gives us a chance to expand our scope to cov... It was a very depressing afternoon watching our selections at Ayr in the Scottish National fall by the wayside with the exception of Git Maker, and selections in both Newbury races flattered to deceive and deliver nothing at Newbury and we could easily have been writing about a terrible day. Thankfully, the mood and most of the losses were mitigated by an excellent 20/1 win at Thirsk for Two Brothers at 20/1 SP and that was backed up by an enhanced place for Faylaq. It also I think supporte... Decent placed runs at Ayr from Whistle Stop Tour 12/1 SP and Shoeshine Boy 10/1 sp yesterday and a cracking effort from Brandy McQueen at 66/1 SP to finish far closer to a place than the price suggested. On the flip side a desperately disappointing and frustrating outcome at Exeter, inexplicably so to be honest. The Feature Race today is the Scottish Grand National which headlines an excellent Card at Ayr with the Trainers Championship as a sideshow, Mullins has sent over the Utility R... A decent enough effort from Golden Glance and Not Now Linda to place at Cheltenham yesterday in a race where we again saw what a criminally underused talent Bryony Frost is, those who deliberately shun here should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Less joy at Newmarket, but some very interesting pointers for the big meetings there in the coming weeks in the big same age Races to come. There is the first day at Ayr today with the Scottish National tomorrow and we'll target a competitive H... A nice return with winners of 3 of the 4 tip races at Cheltenham yesterday and with a pair of non runners in the 4th race, probably as good as we could have hoped for. Doyen Quest who was well backed during the morning got the ball rolling with a narrow win at 4/1 SP, this was followed up by Hymac winning at 11/2 SP again nibbled at in the markets and we closed with an emotional 9/1 winner with Manothepeople, a very aptly named horse on what was to be Paddy Brennan's last ride before a sudden re... It's easy to forget just how tight the margins of victory and defeat are in Flat Racing, whereas over the Jumps, a distance of 5 lengths is "close" , in Flat Racing you can get 10 runners (or more) split by lesser overall distance. So in the context a bold and unlucky (in) running runner up effort from Dutch Decoy yesterday and very laudable runs from Majestic and Prenup. At Naas a decent effort from King Kali again to be runner up and a very bold show at 80/1 SP from Kadys Duha to jus... [Read More]

A poor start to what was a day of speculative runners at Kelso yesterday but some success in the last of the three tip races with both Singapore Trip and Dream Boy running well to place at double figure SP Odds. We have the first day of Turf flat Racing in 2024 at Newmarket today, a Card probably best watched for Going and Draw bias pointers for the weeks ahead, the 1 mile Handicap though at 2.55 with a 17 runner field does offer up an opportunity to dip our toe into the water with som... A cracking day for us at Aintree yesterday with the 2 tip races delivering 2 nice winners with Kateira winning the big handicap Hurdle at 5/1 SP and Arizona Cardinal who was advised at 14/1 winning the Topham Chase at 20/1 SP with strongly tipped James De Berlias runner up at 6/1 SP and a great run from one of the shrapnel suggestions Celebre D'Allen who was advised at 33/1 , finished 4th at 28/1 and just beaten for 3rd place by the legendary "gnats ball" to deny a possible bumper Tricast that w... Time Leader ran a bold race at Aintree in the Foxhunter as did the other selections in the race, but was found wanting at the finish but managed a place. What it told us about the "Going" was possibly not as valid as what it told us about the fact that you can't go too fast too soon round this Course and that Jumping and rhythm are key. No joy at Taunton and two non runners at Limerick, although the one that did run who was advised at 40/1 finished in an enhanced 5th at 18/1, not a bad run and i... [Read More]

It's the first day at Aintree today and with small but admittedly select fields in the first few races more a spectacle for the connoisseurs than a betting medium. There is a big field 2 mile Handicap Hurdle but the most exciting race on the Card is the Foxhunter Hunter Chase at 4.05. This is NOT a handicap race but the Bookmakers are very much treating it like one with Betway going odds to 7 places and a solid chunk of the big Bookies offering odds to 5th place, so we'll clearly focus on the op... A nice win at Thirsk yesterday for Hostelry at 9/1 SP advised at 10/1 from a Yard that we have a lot of time for and which can churn out winners in bursts so one to keep an eye on. Less successful at Hereford where the favourite never seemed happy, although Whynotnowroy ran a decent enough third place. With the Meeting on the Flat at Leopardstown unlikely to pass an Inspection and on bottomless ground if it does and three AW Fixtures, we'll focus on a single race at Market Rasen today, with... A decent run by Luna Magic at Lingfield for a runner up spot but poor efforts from the pair at Newcastle in a race that really did visually endorse the thoughts of some that AW is glorified donkey racing. The meetings at Hexham and Navan today have been abandoned, there is AW at Southwell but we've found an interesting couple of races, one over the Jumps at Hereford and a MIle Handicap at Thirsk. We'll also put up a small e/w Unit 3 race accumulator at Thirsk in some Sprint Races with sugge... [Read More]

A nice win and a perfectly timed ride by Rossa Ryan on the unexposed Loughville gave us a 13/2 SP winner at Bath yesterday (advised 8/1) but unfortunately no joy further down the M5 at Exeter in tough conditions. There is NH at Wincanton today but very small fields generally and three AW Fixtures at Lingfield, Newcastle and Wolverhampton. Our AW Expert hopes to have found some value in a race each at Lingfield and Newcastle. [Read More]

A 6/1 SP win for Duty Of Care at Kempton yesterday advised at 7/1 and a 14/1 SP enhanced (widely available) place for Old Peculier, also advised at 14/1 wasn't too shabby. The Meeting at Leopardstown goes ahead but was subject to a late Inspection, at the time of writing no news from Carlisle; so we have focussed on the Meetings at Bath and Exeter that had no Inspections planned and with the South West having a largely dry and warm day yesterday with significant drying Southerly Winds, I su... Night Bear ran a decent place at Lingfield yesterday and Qeyaady wasn't far off an enhanced place at nice Odds and is one to follow. Disappointing though for us at Musselburgh in the Twilight Meeting there over the Jumps. Sadly we weren't able to repeat the two excellent winners of Thursday in Ireland.  It's carnage Saturday in terms of Racing Fixtures with The Curragh joining Kelso and Stratford on the Abandoned list, leaving a small field card at Uttoxeter and AW at Chelmsford a... A nice win double for Sean at Naas yesterday with Clear The Clouds advised at 11/1 winning at 17/2 and Oneforgonzo who was advised at 33/1 winning at an SP of 14/1 in scintillating style. More on them lower down. The Meeting at Wexford today faces an Inspection as we start to write this mail and things don't look promising and the Meetings at Fontwell and Wetherby have already been abandoned. There were decent runs at Huntingdon from Belargus at 16/1 SP and Island Run to finish second and third. In the Irish National , Frontal Assault at 25/1 SP put up an excellent effort and gave us a great run for our money finishing 4th, most of the others with the exception of the favourite ran very well for a long way, indeed they were right in contention after 3 mils, but sadly the pace was just a yard too fast for them and they faded, as others who had been ridden more quietly and off the... The Irish National is the obvious highlight today, as usual Elliott comes mob handed, Mullins has strong chances and a number of other Yards will feel they have a chance of a big race winner. A field of 21 is alarmingly low to be honest and begs so many questions. What would the field be if Ireland didn't have 80% of the Aintree National field, why haven't some of the UK Trainers gone over there to potentially grab a massive prize, should the 2 main Nationals now have Entrie based on Qualifying ... A disappointing day until Mousey brown won at Fairyhouse, advised at 50/1 , some 66/1 about at the time of the mailing and returned a 33/1 SP. Some excellent analysis of that Down Royal win that exposed some hidden evidence that the penalty for it was indeed generous. The win did again expose the hidden fissures that we see when prescriptive Staking leads some to stake less (we know some level stake of their own volition). We have begun to roll out thoughts about Staking and a less prescrip... [Read More]

We had a few decent placed runs yesterday on the AW and I felt that Barenboim in particular was incredibly unfortunate, it didn't get a run until past the 2 furlong pole, when it did it was then slightly hampered and finished better than the pair in front that included Diamond Bay. The only thing to point out though is that this isn't the first "hard luck" run for Barenboim, so we will track it forwards with interest to see if it is a recurring trend. It's a shame that the Premier Flat...
