One of those nice days yesterday when (almost) everything clicked. A 1-2 at York with Obelix a stand out 20/1 winner and a 1-2 at Newmarket with Oneforthegutter a 12/1 winner and one I think to follow as if you watch the distance the horse covered to find an opening, I think you can mark the run up a few pounds at least. We couldn't deliver the triple whammy at Chepstow, but in the light of a few frustrating weeks, a welcome return to form. As you'll be aware we are away next week and the p...

A win for Prince of iNdia at 7/1 was the sole success on an overall disappointing day yesterday. With some very intense heat today and firming ground and the increasing risk of very hot and humid conditions, the probability is that in many races early pace, if applied correctly, may well see the majority of races won from or near the front as the ground gets quite stingy. We've looked at about 10 races across 5 meetings but have narrowed down to 3, even here the general consensus ...

Excellent runs at Yarmouth by Tommy's Promise and Embarked, just beaten by a well handicapped one we suggested in the analysis had plenty of scope. There is a veritable feast of Racing today, especially considering the dross we've had to endure on weekdays for most of the past few weeks. There are excellent Cards at Newmarket on the July course, Doncaster, Newbury and Carlisle and we will take a race from each. There are some decent 2 year old races coming up and Carolyn will start to focus...

A non runner yesterday but one we will keep an eye on as it was being backed early on (and not just by us). Moderate fare today again but we have found a couple of low grade handicaps with double figure fields where we are a bit more than quietly confident that a few at big prices are very strong contenders once form is closely scrutinised. Both races have compacted top end markets with 3-4 horses all under 5/1, and in both cases, we really do think there may be some value!

We didn't have the success yesterday we'd hoped for with a solitary placed run at Ayr. There are Cards today in the UK at Pontefract (where we looked long and hard at the 4.40 race; Uttoxeter (where similarly we had a long look at the 7.00 race) and at Lingfield Park on the Turf Track. There is also a Meeting at Brighton with very limited runners and an Irish Meeting at Tramore. The races we looked at at Pontefract and Uttoxeter with 9 runner and 10 runner fields respectively, ve...

Darbucks was a well found winner advised at 9/1 returned 6/1 SP yesterday at Ayr and with a very competitive Card there again today on genuinely Good to Soft ground, we will attack 3 races at that Venue today. We did look at a couple of the Evening races at Ripon and one over the Jumps with 20 runners at Worcester too, but on balance we are quietly confident that we have found a few at nice e/w prices again at Ayr today.

An excellent run and win for Classic at 6/1 at Sandown yesterday, given a peach of a ride. At Haydock Paddy The Squire ran a brave runner up, Stressfree an enhanced 5th and Chillingham just missed some money whilst in the final of our 3 races, the low drawn pair look to have had no chance from the draw, whilst the high drawn pair delivered a 12/1 winner and a rhired, accepting the fact that the winner was the "4th option" with a draw caveat in the notes. We've had worse Saturday's and at least i...

We were a shade unlucky in the first of the two tip races at Doncaster yesterday, Sharon Curly ran a bold race from a prominent position, went clear and looked to be the winner but was just grabbed close home. Mayo County went with the pace and ran well for a long way, just fading in the closing stages and definitely one to TRACK and follow perhaps back slightly in trip. Unfortunately the strongly fancied East Tyron was a non runner in the other race, that left us with a couple of long-priced mo...

A very disappointing outcome for us at Perth yesterday but a 3rd and 4th (enhanced) at Yarmouth, both at nice e/w prices where the market leaders came home 1-2, was a decent return. There are just 46 runners in 7 races at Sandown today, 35 in 6 at Newton Abbot and 35 in 6 at Bangor, and whilst the Jumpers at Newton Abbot and Bangor on Dee are understandably reluctant of running on the firm summer ground, it once agai raises the question of how much longer can the BHA waste Fixtures at poorl...

A win for Mrs Trump at Thirsk at 13/2, it was possibly quite fortuitous given the bad luck in running a few behind suffered, but as we always say, good and bad luck evens out and we'll gladly take that one. If you took the extra bet on the 3rd rated Manilla Scouse who won at 12/1 you'll be pretty happy hopefully, if you didn't; a 7/1 place for Pals Battalion mitigated slightly the loss on the race. A decent runner up effort too at 9/1 from Henry Box Brown at Worcester. We're slowly re...

A nice winner in the sole tip race yesterday with Crystal Guard seeing off the even money favourite. There are a couple of 6 furlong handicaps at thirsk today, we've generally left Sprint Handicaps off the roster so far this season, as we indicated we would back in May, however with some decent 2025 relevant "draw data" and plenty of historic data, this is one Track where we think we can have sufficient confidence to attack. We also have selections in a Handicap Chase on a decent ...

Decent placed runs yesterday for Mr Heinz at Pontefract at 33/1, Condotti at Ffos Llas at 18/1 and Rival at Windsor backed in to 6/1. Whilst we await some potentially decent Cards tomorrow, we'll focus on Musselburgh today.

Minella Rescue ran OK to place at Uttoxeter yesterday at a restrictive price and whilst we were ultimately not involved with winner of places in the other race there was promise in the efforts of Manothepeople who did too much too soon and certainly the big priced Ashtown Lad, he was just lobbing along off the bridle for a Circuit and a half before the rider seemed to lose his irons at the cross fence second time round, the saddle then completely slipped off and the rider was effective...

Titian gave us an overdue and welcome win at York yesterday at double figure Odds, that followed a pair placed in the Northumberland Plate earlier, after a disappointing start to the Newcastle Card. The 25/1 win by Spirit Mixer in the big race wasn't a complete shock to us, and was probably one we let slip away. The past few weeks has seen the sad loss of two greats of the Training game, Peter Easterby and Barry Hills. Both deserve a proper send off from us, and I will try to do so wi...

The AW Northumberland Plate Card at Newcastle is one of the few AW Cards we actually look forwards to, that wasn't always the case as it did take us some time to come to terms with the fact this was once one of the great Turf Races and Turf Race days, but with generally small fields and Firm ground all month, it is very welcome to see a cracking Card of big field handicaps. We will attack 3 Handicaps at Newcastle calling on our AW and Northern expert who believes he has found a ni...

There is again a dearth of runners at the majority of venues today, the exception is the AW Card at Newcastle, where we have selected one race and also the Flat Card at The Curragh. We looked closely at the 8.00 race there but it's something like 16/1 v the top 6 in the market and those top 6 are very hard to split to any degree of confidence. A 14 runner Mares Handicap Hurdle at Cartmel and a 13 runner 7 furlong Flat Handicap at Doncaster though offer some competitive options.

Cartmel 3.08 - Mares Handicap Hurdle - Class 5 - 2 miles 6 furlongs - 14 run - Good to Soft I thought that 4 of this 14 runner field were worth very close inspection and narrowly discarded All Under Control (my 3rd rated and a handy backup if a tip is a non runner ) as I think that this Course will suit her and the drop back in trip may eek out some progress. I also noted Killybegs Jet Lady as my 4th rated, a very consistent performer who just needs a bit of help from the handicap...

A very disappointing outcome yesterday. There are poorly subscribed (in terms of runners) Cards generally today. We did look at the 4.10 race at Newmarket where both Hickory and Be Frank, who have won for us this season race in a competitive 12 runner race but the top 4-5 in the market look strong and whilst Be Frank is also in the TRacker today, at around 12/1 here, a small sode e/w bet is probably the smartest punt. We will focus on a pair of competitive and interestin...

There are 3 big field handicaps to attack today, a couple at Carlisle including the historic (almost prehistoric in Horse Racing terms as one of the oldest recorded races) the Carlisle Bell and also a nice 15 runner Handicap Chase at Worcester. Softenting ground at both venues adds to the puzzle. ----

There are very few punting options today with small fields the norm and although there are a couple of Sprint Handicaps with 11-12 runners and a long distance Handicap Hurdle at Newton Abbot with 11 runners, our long hard look at those probable 3-4 race options suggests that there is very little each way value in any of them and the most likely scenario winners and placed horses that are hard to separate with prices likely to be around or substantially below 5-6/1. The Carlisle Bell Card an...

Not a great set of Cards today but we think we've found a nice AW race to attack at Wolverhampton and it's time for Michael to get his feet back under the table so to speak in a competitive looking Flat Race Handicap at Ballinrobe.

Good Morning; Very good runs in The Wokingham yesterday from Ten Pounds 3rd at 18/1 advised at 33/1 and Holkham Bay 4th at 28/1 advised 16/1 and a gallant 7th, just missing enhanced places for Apollo One who raced very prominently at 40/1. That rather summed up the week, with 4-5 runners up / third placed, who went very close at double figure Odds none more so that Frost At Dawn advised at 80/1 on the opening day. We had 4 winners, the best of which price wise was Adreshia at 10/1. A "nearl...

After a day of big-priced somewhat unexpected winners, and a week when we've just been touched off three times in big field handicaps to suffer frustrating runner up finishes, it was nice to close out with a confident 10/1 SP winner courtesy of Ardresha in the closing race and a nice place too from Zayer at 16/1 SP. Any talk about the draw bias was thrown on its head when low drawn horses won a couple of early races although the high side held sway later on. Quite simply I think it is down ...

La Botte was our 3rd slightly unlucky runner up of the week and whilst we'll never bemoan bad luck as it will always even out, had those 3 just finished a collective 2 lengths further forwards we'd be celebrating a very decent 3 days so far. That's racing however and there are still 2 days to find some big priced winners. The sight of the very high drawn numbers dominating the last 2 big field handicaps on the Straight course yesterday will have been something of a "doomsday" scenario&...

A couple of winners yesterday at single figure prices and a couple place, the day undoubtedly though belonged to John + Thady Gosden, and whilst I can't yet really work out what Thady does (he won't be the first son of a famous father trainer to define a role initially) the fact is that since the demise of dear old Sir Henry Cecil, I have regarded Gosden as not only his natural successor as the best UK based Trainer but also as simply a very decent and genuine person. Day 3 sees a fran...

A decent enough day yesterday when we were perhaps a shade unlucky that French Master at 5/2 was the only winner. Frost At Dawn was widely available at 80/1 early and backed in to 28/1 possibly by the perceived early draw bias and ran a cracker to finish second beaten only by the Goldie horse that we had flagged up as a big danger. Nurburgring just failed to get up in the Ascot Stakes against a worthy winner but considering he came from Stall 20, I'd see it as a place gained rather than a w...

Firstly and very importantly, a MASSIVE THANK YOU for all of the messages and kind comments regarding Sean. I have copied them all into an email and sent them to the family and I know that they have had a very big impact and have been very gratefully received. You can't buy respect, you earn it, and your feedback very much showed the respect Sean had. Things will be VERY numb and strange for a while and whilst a few have you have suggested it would be OK to give this week a swerve, you know what...
