York 4.10
By UK Flat / AW (Northern)
NORTHERN - York 4.10 - Handicap - Class 2 - 6 furlongs - 20 run - Good to Firm
Another typically tough York Sprint.
I'm not going to get hung up over the Draw as I think we've seen all week that pace or pace to aim at is as important as where you are on the Track and I've picked horses on the Far Rail, down the middle and the Stands rail who I think have excellent chances but also some pace around them and happy to take my chances.
Regional is a worthy favourite for Ed Bethell but is prone to missing the break and that would be a huge disadvantage in this field. Tinto holds solid if not spectacular claims, Silver Samuri looks too high in the handicap for me now, Mr Wagyu owes us and me nowt after good profitable runs for us, Aleezdancer is a very interesting 3 year old for Kevin Ryan but I suspect needs a bit more cut in the ground but a big danger. Spangled mac is another who may just need a few pounds off its back and Mums Tipple is interesting on its last run but basically disappointing before that.
Gulliver is always hard to leave out its on a nice mark but I'm going to suggest now and lay down a marker for this one at Ayr in a few weeks where it should get the cut in the ground it needs, so lets TRACK it forwards and hope it doesn't pop up today to ruin the plan. Good Eye ran well in the Stewards Cup and could outrun the Odds and Volatile Analyst is another like Gulliver who may be waited for and tracked onwards to Ayr where it'll get the cut. Hopefully it needs to spring back to form.
There were 5 that really stand out for me!
I'll have a saver on SUMMERGHAND who is slipping to a very nice mark and actually running quite well, it's not a great each way price but drawn in Stall 2 i of interest. Of more interest is the one drawn inside it CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD who has Course form and is a distance winner, if it gets the breaks and that side remains the place to be it has a cracking each way shout off a mark of 91 for Mick Channon..
I expect Lethal Levi to set the fractions down the centre and to run well for a very long way for Karl Burke, next to it is the somewhat unexposed LAMPANG for Tim Easterby. This one has excuses after missing the break entirely in the Stewards Cup, its a bit overlooked in the market but a mark of 103 is competitive and it should certainly have a great pacesetter to follow.
On the Stands side and ideally placed to come over the top and deliver late are TABDEED who really returned to form last time and who again retains the headgear its on a nice mark for Hollie Doyle and Archie Watson and we know Hollie likes to steal the limelight on a Saturday. SALEYMM is intriguing dropped down in trip but it has won at 6 furlongs and travels sweetly enough to suggest it can lay up off the pace. It will need the breaks but could be ideally stalled to finish like the proverbial steam train, very apt in a railway town.
