York 2.20

York 2.20 Class 4 - 1 mile 2 1/2 furlongs - Good to Firm - 13 run

I was immediately drawn to SUCCELLUS here who has been in my Tracker for this Course since a 3rd place in a Course and Distance Race that was a Class higher than this last Autumn. That was something of a return to form at the time after a frustrating period with Roger fell when I thought the horse was crying out for an easing in Class and a view it had been just too highly tried, possibly trying to reach a handicap mark it could thrive off.

The horse has now moved to Oliver Greenall and he may have more realistic ambitions for this ex John Gosden inmate who could make up into a nice C4/C5 handicapper for him. I certainly think that having had a quiet seasonal debut he can strip fitter and enjoy these calmer waters off a mark of 75.  A win mark of 87 as a 3 year old and that CD placed run being off a mark of 81 gives me quiet confidence that this could be an excellent piece of race placement. A horse to track and follow at this kind of level I think.

I was drawn too to EMLYN at a lower price who ran well on seasonal debut to this kind of distance and who may benefit from the drop in trip and fitness gained in that run. This ex Dermot Weld horse is another it may pay to track and follow in this Grade.

TRACKER - SUCCELLUS (IF you wanted a 2nd string go with EMLYN @ 15/2)
