NORTHERN - Ayr 3.00 - Class 2 Handicap - 1 mile 2 furlongs - 14 run - Good to Soft
This is very competitive and hard to rule anything out but you have to go on your form analysis and gut reaction in such races and there were 5 at the end of a long deliberation that I see as great each way value in some form. It's all about seeking a Net profit from the race.
Sir Chauvelin deserves the respect any Jim Goldie runner has at this meeting but surely needs further and would need a suicidal early pace to work off. Fishable though is one of a trio at bigger odds that I liked and just missed the cut, it's best runs recently have been at the trip with some cut in the ground and it's on a decent mark and a big run wouldn't surprise me at all, it just missed the final cut.
Yorkshire Lady is lightly raced and probably needs some help too from the handicapper, Faylaq has placed 4th the last twice so knocking on the door, but with proven stamina it's likely to be coming from the back and will need luck in running. Revich is probably the class horse of the race, definitely at a mile, steps up in trip and on its grand dams side has a pedigree that suggests its worth a try but this is an unforgiving track if you are reaching for the line on empty tanks. What's The Story is one of a couple for Dalgleish and carries top weight, confidence improved by a win last time but this is tougher. Al Mubir is 5/2 and clearly has untapped potential, but at the price there are others I think; are just more world wise and well handicapped.
I will have a £1 e/w saver on COCKALORUM and TILSITT. Cockalorum ran much better last time, remains on a very attractive mark and that last effort suggests it's chance is near. Tilsitt has a great each way chance on some excellent Course form winning off 79 and placing off 83 and back to that mark here at big odds.
LOVE IS GOLDEN is surely the pace angle for the Johnstons and Stall 4 is a perfect berth for it. I think it'll set sail off the turn and try to make it all. It's on a nice mark and if there is any scrummaging in behind it's good enough to take advantage. It'll seem forever to the line and the fear is something comes and grabs it close home.
The pair i think most likely are FIRST IMPRESSION who had a pleasing return at York when flagged up last time, that should have it spot on for this, it feels like a plan and it will be disappointing if its not in the first 3 home. CHICHESTER won this last year for Dalgleish, its off 6 lbs higher but is another that I think has been aimed for this day and will be spot on for it.
TIP - First Impression / Tracker - Chichester / shrapnel - Love Is Golden (I'll have a small T/Cast perm on those) - £1 e/w for enhanced place - Cockaolrum + Tilsitt
