Thirsk 8.23

Thirsk 8.23 - Handicap - Class 6 - 1 mile 4 furlongs - 16 run - Going Good

I can't say I'm keen on many here and the top of the market looks uninspiring.

I dallied for a long time over O'Reillys Pass for Ruth Carr who gets optimum conditions and has no excuses but there were a few who caught my eye elsewhere and one in particular at a big price.

A pair of very unexposed Handicap debutants with the pedigree to step up markedly upped in trip are Arkaig Treasure from the Fahey yard and Chica Boom from the Ian Williams yard, neither have done anything yet but arrive off very low marks and both may be worth a sliter of an investment purely because of connections and pedigrees.

The one who really catches my eye is the veteran and rag of the field TRINITY STAR. A Course and Distance winner in 2019 off a mark of 68 and a placed effort here as recently as June (4th place) when beaten just over 2 lengths by Galidermes who opposes again with our selection 9lbs better off here and also beaten just over a length by Whitwell who also runs here and from whom it gets an 8lbs pull for that length and a half.

IF Trinity Star runs to the same level therefore it's entitled to finish a fair few lengths in front of 2 of the more likelier types and all three have good CD form. It's often the case that a regressive veteran can find and run to a mark whereas so many of these have very little in terms of a CV and some upped significantly in trip. A case of looking deeply for proven and still pertinent form.
