Thirsk 3.30

NORTHERN - THirsk 3.30 Handicap - Class 5 - 1 mile - 12 run - Good to Firm
A few caught the eye and whilst I think Menelaus IS the one they all have to beat, the horse is a 9 race maiden and the jury is out both about the best trip and resolution in a tight finish, so at the price you wouldn't be exactly confident. Absolute Dream is below its last win mark and also looks solid if not compelling. Diamond Haze won the corresponding race last year off this mark but badly missed the break last time and expended too much energy to latch onto the field, a repeat can't be ruled out and he's another where the concerns outweigh the value of the price.
ZUMURUD though looks a more solid each way proposition as it's on a winning mark, was placed in this race last year but is off a lower weight today and has the benefit and evidence of winning on Good to Firm Going. At bigger prices I can envisage a better run from Rocket Rod for those who might want a bit of big priced shrapnel. The other one to catch my eye though is EY UP ITS THE BOSS, disappointing in a big field at York last time when not many got in to the race, but has course form here and ran up a sequence of 1-1-1 on Good to Firm last summer off marks from 57 to 64, drawn 12, I can see it slingshotting over the field IF there isn't a prominent pace bias, I'm prepared to take that chance at the price.
TIPS (1) Zumurud / (2) Ey Up Its The Boss - reduced stake on the 2nd option
