RIPON 2.55 - The Pipers Note Handicap over 6 furlongs and the wonderful PIPERS NOTE gets a chance to win a race named after him. Very encouraging run last time and has an excellent chance of winning the race with a draw in Stall 4 looking to be ideal with a lot of pace down low. The draw here seems to throw up extremes with Low usually favoured on better Ground and High with a bit of cut, its Good to Firm with Rain about so take your pick. I think head and heart says have PIPERS NOTE as a 1 point win saver.
This is a specialists track and a few jump off the page. The last 2 winners have been GIN IN THE INN drawn high to win and INTISAAB drawn low to win, both return today drawn in stalls 2 and 5 respectively. GIN IN THE INN has an excellent return first time out and is marginally preferred to Intisaab who disappointed over the winter in Dubai and may just need a run or two to acclimatise back especially with a chill in the Yorkshire air.
Of the others drawn low I most fear SANDRAS SECRET but always worth looking at the other extreme here and with the quietly fancied Maggies Angel (drawn 16) a non runner (must track that and see where it goes next) we have FLYING PURSUIT drawn in stall 15 and TERENTUM STAR drawn in stall 14. Both have good Course form but one is half the price of the other. I think Terentum is in a bit deep handicap mark wise but old FLYING PURSUIT is the type who can pick a rail and just fly down it - whether its totally the wrong side we'd only know after the race but at the Odds and having had a run, I am tempted enough to have a nibble.
