Redcar 5.15

NORTHERN - Redcar 5.15 - Handicap - Class 6 - 14 Run - Good to Firm (possibly heavy showers before start time)
This is a challenging and tough 6 furlongs and it's easy to get the fractions wrong so we look for proven stamina and Course form, of which there is plenty.
In recent years a HIGH draw seems to be an asset although pace as usual on these straight tracks is key too. If you can get cover and conserve energy off a pace angle middle to high you probably have optimum chances on most Going here.
There are a couple of strong ones at the head of the market, with Polam Lane drawn in Stall 10 a Course and Distance winner off a mark of 55 who has had 2 runs and a big chance here together with So Grateful drawn 11 and a Maiden but twice a runner up, gets the capable assistance of Sarah Brotherton and drawn in Stall 11. (if you want a canny reverse forecast for a few quid, its a logical bet but there is plenty of value elsewhere.
Point of Woods was impressive winning off 54 at Thirsk last time, a Course and Distance winner too in the past off a mark of 46. Runs off 57 here and drawn in Stall 9. It was very hard to leave out but I just had 2 I preferred more so if either is a non-runner this is the reserve.
Absolute Dream would be very strong in my thoughts too but for a 130 day absence, pretty much the first break the horse has had since 2020 and suggests it might need a few runs and drawn in stall 6 does not look ideal either. Stronsay runs off a mark of 57, 5lbs above last win mark and drawn low so the mark and draw would not seem to be ideal for today. Mansfield has placed here in big fields, may just prefer an easier 6 furlongs and a low draw. Excessable for Tim Easterby is a Course winner, a Distance winner elsewhere and has won off a mark of 58 and placed off a mark of 62. It runs off a very appealing mark of 50, but that reflects recent form where it seems to be fading at the business end. It may need an easier 6 furlongs than this on that evidence BUT is a very appealing price!. Another at a big price with a squak is DURCHILL he has CD winning form, has won recently on the AW and drawn 13 off a mark of 48, is one for those who like a dabble at BIG prices for £2 win and £2 on the exchanges.
My top 2 though are BILLIAN, perhaps the most unexposed in the race and scope to improve, it drops from Class 5 and gets a lovely draw in Stall 12 and Phil Kirby's horses are running well enough when they have optimum chances and I quite like the profile of this one. Of the more exposed POWER POINT is a Course and Distance winner on penultimate run, the draw bias was evident that day and again the horse gets prime pitch and can't be left out off a mark of 50.
