NORTHERN - Pontefract

3.30 Handicap - Class 4 - 1 mile 2 furlongs - Soft - Showers - 11 run

SUDONA obliged for me last time and in a race where not many are well handicapped and a few may be over the top I can see this one going in again off a 4-5 week break. It's hard to find any chinks in terms of going, handicap mark and general well-being so I'll have an each way saver, if you want to bet "win only" that's a logical option.

Of the remainder a lot are above win or place marks and don't look well handicapped. At a bigger price and one who is consistent around the mark it has here and who has some decent form in the conditions is GOLDEN DOVE. Placed off 74 - 70 - 72 -72 and with the liking for some cut, I can't see any reason why it can't run a place.

TIP - SUDONA / Tracker - Golden Dove

5.15 Handicap - Class 4 - 5 furlongs - 14 run

I'm always inclined to look at high draws on soft here but that soft/high trend has diminished significantly in the past few seasons and a low draw holds sway more often than not on soft Going (like on Good or better here).

Of those drawn high there are plenty of Course specialists and indeed winners of this race like John Kirkup; Bossipop; Our Little Pony, but of those drawn in a double digit stall whose price may be some value is Fahey's 3 year old ROYDMOOR. Hanaghan rides and the horse will probably mave a bit more scope off this mark that most and best career run came on soft Going, so I think it is worth a small sporting investment.
