NORTHERN - Pontefract - Monday 24th April
3.00 Handicap - Class 2 - 1mile 2furlongs - 13 run - Good to Soft (Showers)
Not many here really appealed as they may need the run and also may appreciate better Going.
At the top end of the market both Zealot who is AW fit and Sun King who has a good pedigree and ex APO'Brien should be very big dangers but one really caught my eye and a couple more for smaller stakes have run well fresh and look to have ideal conditions and draws possibly if fit enough to exploit. I see them as 50% stakes though
The one I really like is BARYSHNIKOV who has had a run already over course and distance and can put fitness to good use here and I've no concerns about the trip nor underfoot conditions. Stall 12 would be ideal IF they come Stands side as they do often when Soft but would be no excuse if they don't with the fitness advanatge.
The pir i think worth small bets are WOOTTON'SUN for the Fahey team who won first time out last season and looks a handicapper to follow as a 4 year old and LIGHTENING COMPANY from the in form Haslam Yard who ticks every box apart from having had a run.
TIPS (1) Baryshnikov (2) Wootton'Sun / (3) Lightening Company

3.35 Handicap -1 mile - Class 5 - 16 run - Good to Soft
The top 3 looks decent but opposable so I'll take on Tipperary Moon; Do I Dream and Ravenglass, the first two ran 1st and 3rd here 13 days ago and Ravensglass looks to fulfil early potential.
I really like GLOBAL SPIRIT who has had a run, a Course and Distance winner, prefers Soft Going and off a nice mark and I felt better at the price than the 3 market leaders. One who may need the run but whoI really think is worth following is VENTURA RASCAL, it has run very well fresh before which adds to confidence and on soft and has had a wind operation in the Autumn and I'll be disappointed if this one isn't winning races in the next few months.
At smaller 50% odds if you want to play the generous enhanced places, KAARANAH has had a run and has decent irish form at the trip and soft Going and the drop in trip may suit on this tough finishing climb. GAINSBOURG is Course and Distance winner off a mark of 71, runs off 73 here but should be fit enough and although the market see stall 16 as a negative, if they do come over to the Stand Rail it may have a prime position to exploit.
TIPS (1) Global Spirit / (2) Ventura Rascal / (3 + 4 if you wish to exploit 5 places - Kaaranah + Gainsbourg
