Northern - Doncaster 2.10

 

I think the Going description of Good should be taken in the context of winter ground so it's likely to be quite tacky. NO signs of much rain today to soften it but a shed load it seems all over the north next week.

 

At the had of the market it's hard to look past AJAYS WAYS for Fergal and McPherson, better the more its gone up in trip and is up 4lbs for a nice win at 2 miles 5 furlongs last time and the 3 mile P2P form suggests he can take the distance rise in his stride. I'll have a win saver on this one at around 10/3 or better.

 

No Cruise Yet for Sam England is consistent with form figures of 1-2-2 but off a mark of 95, 7lbs above that last win mark I don't think is that well handicapped but sure to run another consistent race. Clondaw Pretender has been runner up last twice but off a 2 month break and that form on more Autumn Good and Good to Firm ground I think we can by-pass today. Minella Examiner seems to be being well backed, it's well connected and won this race in 2020 but I don't see that many signs that its returning to that kind of form but the market would suggest it may have been showing something at home.

 

Peters Portrait for the Longsdon yard may need the run, the Trainer is in good nick but a Yard who've always done better on better ground and it may just be the dry spell has benefitted their types more than most. 

 

The pair I'm keenest on is STEEL WAVE and EAGLE DE GUYE.

 

STEEL WAVE has been in good form for a while and tipped / mentioned in Tracker; when placed at 10/1 and winning at 9/1  on its last 2 runs. It gets 4lbs for that win but the Trainer (who we have flagged up since the turn of the year) is in form too with a small string and I think this one is over-priced and a bit overlooked despite the 4lbs rise with a young lady who clearly gets on well with the horse again in the saddle. EAGLE DE GUYE is more speculative for Rose Dobbin but should be fit now after 2 runs and this is a nice mark for a horse who has not quite fulfilled its potential yet.
