Newcastle Tuesday 8th March

By UK Flat / AW (Northern)

NORTHERN - Newcastle (2.05 / 2.40 Div 1 / Div 2 - Handicap Hurdle C5 - 2 miles 4 and 1/2 furlongs - Good to Soft (dry)

A large number of handicap debutants in both races temper the stakes as some are going to be progressive and possibly show their hand for the first time.

2.05 - Of the handicap debutants Keep The Faith (Rebecca Menzies) may be the best and most interesting. Economic Editor ran better last time and gets cheekpieces, Barrakhor is up 4lbs for a scrambled win at Southwell for a prolific yard (Fergal O'Brien); Smokey And The Bandit is down in trip off a big weight, Warriors Story has had a wind op and on handicap debut and all of those towards the head  of the market are real dangers.

The Easterbys runs a couple with EN COLEUR coming back from the P2P fields but with a runoff 108 over Hurdles at Doncaster in January last year looking a very interesting bit of form considering it runs off just 93 here. They also run COURT AT SLIP who I tipped last time when it disappointed having fallen in contention the time before both over 3 miles. The drop in trip and better Going suggests the horse may run a better race here at big odds.

Fightfortheroses and The Resdev Way would have chances on best runs but the one I really like is RUMBLE B who was 3rd last time when mentioned and who gets a further pound off and looks a horse running in to full fitness and form.

------

2.40 - similar set up really with some unexposed Handicap debutants and some more exposed types.

Thunder In Milan for Lucinda Russell on handicap debut may take some beating and heads the market, Everyday Champagne for the Richards yard too looks a nice prospect. Bestarius is admirably consistent and steps up in trip and Trac won last time out but on desperate ground and gets a 5lbs penalty.

LOCK DOWN LUKE is in decent form, exposed but solid and the booking of Brian Hughes catches the eye. Get With it for Rose Dobbin showed promise on seasonal debut and could well improve a ton for that and Beat The Edge for Tim Easterby has some P2P form that catches the eye on handicap debut too.

DR SHIROCCO is an Irish P2P winner whose form figures over further hide the fact that it has run well to this kind of trip before fading and Kinnerton Hill looks too big a price too.

The one I've been waiting very patiently for though is THE JAD FACTOR who I tipped when placed on the 27th January and who had previously placed. They have waited for better ground and with a couple of pounds less off a mark of 96 it'll be disappointing if the patience doesn't pay off.
