Newcastle 1.10

NORTHERN - Newcastle 1.10 - Conditional Jockey Handicap Hurdle - Class 5 - 2 miles 4 and 1/2 furlongs - 17 Run - Good to Soft
A competitive race and with enhanced place odds one I want to attack.
At the top of the market is Goodtimes Badtimes for Sandy Thompson, it's had a run which it will come on for, it has a favoUrites chance but at the price I'm quite keen to take it on as I am with Whoa Black Betty who has won its last 2 races but comes off a break of 254 days and up to a career high mark.
There are plenty of dangers like Bridandank for Micky Hammond who was a runner up last time and is upped in trip, Fernhill Lad on the other hand drops in trip and tries new headgear for Nick Alexander and Quick Pick for Jennie Candlish on seasonal debut back over hurdles can run well too. It wouldn't be a shock if either of those won but I fancy a few more a little more strongly on the day.
AFRICAN GLORY was a runner up too for Martin Todhunter, a consistent type who was a runner up here and at Hexham last season off marks of 79, deserves to nick one of these races and can do some damage today off a mark of 74 with a good 5lbs Claimer on board.
BIRD ON THE WIRE for the mcCain team has to be feared a runner up at Bangor and Catterick off marks of 90 and 91, and a 3 mile P2P winner, we have to take fitness on trust after a break of 192 days but the Yard rarely come racing with anything undercooked and I like the profile of the horse.
At decent odds it's probable that Adelphi Prince who looks right out of form but whose form last season would give it a chance here and with places off marks of 94 and 95 then today's reduced mark of 86 - 3 lbs Claim could see it start to climb back to some form. The other one to note at bigger odds is On We Go, who has also run well in the past off higher marks for this jockey - small shrapnel bets if you want to play the enhanced places on those pair at your discretion.
TIP - AFRICAN GLORY / Tracker - Bird On The Wire (shrapnel if you wish on Adelphi Prince @ 25/1 + On We Go @ 22/1)
