AYR 2.15 - Class 6 Handicap - 6 furlongs - Good to Firm 14 run
It's still very early in the season, some will need a few runs based on past evidence so I narrowed this down to 4 of real each way interest.
At the head of the market Impressor has had a run but may be better with a bit more cut in the ground and over 5 furlongs. Kats Bob similarly may need a bit of rain to really let itself down and you'd suspect at least a furlong further especially on this ground. Unashamed was a runner up on soft Going at Thirsk on its return, it's clearly the one they all have to beat but anything below 3/1 would look skinny to me.
STRONSAY has had a run and got a tip from us last time out. It ran on well into 6th over 5 furlongs but is better over this trip, it would ideally like a bit of cut in the ground but with race fitness and some OK runs on faster going looks to have a decent e/w chance. It has collateral form with CLASSY AL who ran for Jim Goldie in a race here last Autumn. CLASSY AL got loose on his return a few weeks back but best run over this Course and Distance off a mark of 63 looks good in the context of a mark of 54 today. A Draw in Stall 1 may or may not be a negative, it'll be all about where the pace is and at a price I'm confident of a decent run.
Also in that race last year was SIXCOR it may just need this off a 192 days break it has form on Good to Firm though and definitely one to track after today, as is another of Goldies GLEN LOMOND , it's not achieved much so far and runs off a basement mark but its pedigree suggests it may be seen to better light over 7 furlongs or more, it should be better at this trip though than the bare 5 furlongs and one to TRACK onwards and if you want a £2 place bet on the Exchanges at preferential Odds to SP, this may be the one!
TRACKER - Stronsay / Shrapnel - Classy Al (14 Glen Lomond @ 50/1 may be worth a £2 place bet on the exchanges at big odds)
----------
THIRSK 8.05 - Class 6 Handicap - 7 furlongs - 15 run - Good to Firm
All age Handicaps here are usually very competitive and well supported in terms of big fields.
A whole host of these will be winning similar races during the season but may just need the runs today.
In that list I'd suggest keeping a close eye on Final Frontier, Aoifes Joy and Asmund. The likes of Lilikoi has run well fresh and may be a danger tonight for David Barron and it's definitely one we'll be adding to the Tracker, MOTORAYEL too at a big price has run OK fresh for Tim Easterby and best at slightly further than this but it's one that may just need this off 210 days but the type to come out in a few weeks and run a big race, we like this one a lot going forwards.
Dandys Gold and True mason may be better over 6 furlongs but have chances on best form if benefitting from a step up in trip as they mature and at the head of the market its hard to rule out Mr Strutter, Key Look who is AW fit and Frog And Toad who won nicely on Friday and runs whilst in form with a penalty here.
All things considered though the best e/w value may lie with MAGICAL EFFECT who has had a run and who won on it's 2nd seasonal run in both 2020 and 2021, it looks very well handicapped off a mark of 55 and could be one of many in the Yard who are on very good handicap marks following a long spell last year when many in the Yard were not fully healthy. Its wins off 69 and 73 in the past 2 years make a mark today of 55 eye-watering with the Yard showing every sign that the horses are now fit and healthy.
The other one who stands out is NORTHBOUND, it may need the run but the yard is already amongst the winners and Paul Mulrennan remains a go-to rider in these low Grade handicaps, it's got good Course and Distance place form and a potentially handy berth in Stall 3 and a mark 5lbs below what it has been competitive off in the not too distant past.
TRACKERS - Magical Effect + Northbound. (if you want a big priced one for a £2 exchange bet to place then it has to be 10 Motarayel @ 40/1.)
