Haydock 2.40

By UK Flat / AW (Northern)

NORTHERN - Haydock 2.40 Handicap - Class 5 - 1 mile 3 and 1/2 furlongs - 11 run - Good to Soft

A fillies handicap and a couple really do stand out at decent e/w early prices. At the top end of the market I think Bollin Margaret may now be just in the grip of the handicapper and Typical Woman has mixed messages at this sort of trip, finishing strongly over 10 furlongs from off the pace but not totally convincing yet at 12 furlongs, the 100 yards less may suit but at the price i'm not confident nor convinced.

Sweet Fantasy looks better on the AW to date but at bigger Odds I did look long and hard at Spring Glow and Spit Spot. Spring Glow has been disappointing in better races and  should find a level at some point and the addition of the hood is interesting and Spit Spot has mostly run on the AW and another yet to fully fulfil the pedigree but who will also be winning at some point. Its hard to split them but of you want a small shrapnel e/w I would not put you off either.

Most confidence here centres around ARCTIC FOX and CANDY SHACK. ARCTIC FOX won this race last year and a subsequent race off marks of 74 and 75, clearly July is her time of year and she showed improved form and fitness last time out and looks primed again off a mark of 76 with a 3lbs Claim. CANDY SHACK has run well to this sort of trip more than once before fading over 14 furlongs, it's likely to be run at a decent clip and down the long straight I'd expect this one to be finishing best of all and with a bit of cut in the ground it's less likely to be stolen from the front than if on Good to Firm Going. CANDY SHACK also gets the aid of a first time hood to calm her down in the early stages.

TIPS (1) Arctic Fox / (2) Candy Shack
