NORTHERN - Doncaster 1.40 Novice Handicap Hurdle - class 4 - 2 miles 3 and 1/2 furlongs - 12 run - Good to Soft
It's quite a tricky looking but competitive Doncaster Card today and this race panned out easier in my analysis than the earlier Handicap Chase.
At the top end of the market I am happy to take on Il Va De Soi on handicap debut and Mikhaolovich, both will be obvious dangers but i can't split them and not really much market value for either. Spot On Soph is in the TRACKER as is Sea Village, I now have a niggle about this increased mark for Spot on Soph and don't think Sea Village is quite up to this yet. Soldierofthestorm has returned from a very promising win at the end of last term with a couple of disappointing runs but hard to discount and one to fear.
I'm going to add Eric Carmen and Boomslang to the TRACKER as I think both have potential to win races but will benefit from the run here but I am going to suggest a small£1 e/w on BOOMSLANG @ 22/1 who really looks like a decent horse in the making.
My main selections are BOLD REACTION, not one of the better Henderson horses and has not yet fulfilled potential but there are more than enough glimpses of ability and I'm drawn in by the early price and belief it will be fit enough first time out and Henderson rarely sends a dud to Doncaster!. BRIANS JET had a nice seasonal debut spin at Sedgefield and went into my notebook staying on late, they have held him back a bit waiting no doubt to get a bit more work in to him and for the right ground and I'll be very disappointed if he's not primed and in the first 4 home here.
