CARLISLE 4.50 Fillies Handicap Flat - Class 5 - 3 year Olds - 12 run - 7 Furlongs
A competitive little race where the likely favourite is Billies Girl who has blazed a trail a couple of times before being caught in the last furlong over a mile, so this step back in trip looks sensible. I'm not sure though that this isn't a "choke out" girl who may repeat the style of running over whatever distance and always be one that sets the race up for something else. Golden Melody for Tim Easterby is slowly getting the hand of things and looks a very solid proposition in this Grade and Billies Girl comes an awful long way from the Ed Dunlop yard, was well backed at Brighton last time and clearly a danger.
At bigger odds I have an inkling that The Sedgebergian may outrun Odds IF fit enough and that may be one to keep an eye on for future reference.
The pair I most like though against the field at nice each way odds are STRANGERONTHESHORE, she went in to my notebook and probably many others last time. Unruly and kicked in the Stalls but allowed to run by the very, then met all sorts of trouble in running yet caught the eye finishing strongly. If the stalls handling and release goes well and she gets a trouble free run we'll see if that perception is true and my only niggle is the drying ground but we'll have to wait and see. Nice e/w chance i think.
Richard Fahey's BRAZEN BOW might be ideally suited by this stiff climbing 7 furlongs, a bit unlucky in running in 2 races over a mile, there is plenty of open space here up the hill and the stiff 7 furlongs will test stamina of anything going off a bit too fast, smaller fields may help and I can see this one progressing at some point and another on a nice e/w price.
