Beverley 5.25
By UK Flat / AW (Northern)
NORTHERN - Beverley 5.25 - Handicap - Class 5 - 7 and 1/2 furlongs - Soft - 13 run
It's already "soft" here and plenty of rain due to I'm looking for proven stamina and soft ground form.
At the top of the market both Ugo Gregory and Look Back Smiling tick all the boxes but at the restrictive prices I think the only sensible bet is a small unit reverse f/cast to cover them off which is what I'll do.
Storymaker is an unexposed 3 year old but mixed messages re the trip and suitability of soft Going, She's The Danger is almost certainly better at 6 furlongs and on better going, Dr Rio won last time off a mark of 53 but usually favours much firmer underfoot conditions, Park Street also won last time at 40/1 and was something of an eyecatcher but again the softer going raises significant question marks.
There are a few 3 year olds in here who are completely unexposed and almost certainly better than qualifying runs suggest, the one worth a small shrapnel e/w may be LADY DOUGLAS whose runs so far suggest this could be it's best trip at the moment and the pedigree suggests soft should not be a significant negative.
A pair though at nice e/w prices who do have the soft form and stamina and who are running off very compelling marks if out of form, are SHANAZ and FIRST GREYED. SHANAZ could well revive in these conditions and FIRST GREYED has had soft ground for its last 2 wins off marks of 63 and is back to a mark of 62 after being tried in tougher races and also not ideal conditions a few times. It should strip fitter for a recent return and I'm quietly confident of a big run from both of these.
TIPS (1) Shanaz / (2) First Greyed (3) - shrapnel if you wish on Lady Douglas
