Beverley 2.45

NORTHERN - Beverley 2.45 Handicap - Class 5 - 5 furlongs - 13 run - Good to Firm
This is seriously competitive for the Class.
The Draw bias here usually favours low draws but in such a tight race I think you have to look at every horse on its merits and racing last night there suggested anything good enough and given the run of the race with some luck in running could win from anywhere.
Melody King could be running into some form and is 3 lbs below its last winning mark but doesn't appeal as great value in such a tight race. Van Gerwen is one of three from the Midgley yard and drawn in Stall 3, a pound above its last winning mark but has no place value, Refuge has form figures of 1-1-2-1 but now up to a mark of 68, Arnold is a Course and Distance winner, won this race last year off todays mark so has an obvious chance but as with all of those there really isn't any each way margin.
Roydmoor is another back to a mark it's won off but I think needs a bit of rain, Our Little pOny is very much a Course and Distance expert but a few pounds above an ideal mark in my analysis. Latin Five is up 2lbs for a recent Course and Distance win and has every chance as does the horse it beat High Society who is another for Midgley. Midgley also runs NIBRAS AGAIN who I do think represents excellent value based on eye-popping mark of 64, down in Class and just one of those that jumps off the page as being ready to win off a mark it can win off for the first time in a while. The price gives some wriggle room too.
Ornate could have smashed these in the the next town at best but is off a receding mark, if it can find a level it can win from it still retains ability but this is a very competitive Class 5 as we are indicating. Gullane One isn't a no-hoper at all as its last win was off a mark of 55, it makes a Course debut here, which is quite surprising given connections but it has won up the hill at right handed Carlisle and at the price may be worth £1 each way.
The one I really like at the price though is GORGEOUS GENERAL who gets a low draw to try to exploit, has placed 3rd in its last 2 runs over Course and Distance off marks of 54 and 53, gets another pound off here off a mark of 52, clearly likes the Course, loves to hear its hooves rattle and the price looks to appealing to totally ignore.
Clearly a very tough race to call but we'll have some shrapnel on NIBRAS AGAIN and GORGEOUS GENERAL and if you wish a quid each way or win and place on Gullane One @ 25/1
