Beverley - Tuesday 20th September

By UK Flat / AW (Northern)

NORTHERN - Beverley 1.42 - 1 mile 2 furlongs - Handicap - Class 6 - Going Good - 12 run

There are 5 horses pretty tightly packed at the head of the market and logic suggests they will dominate but none really stand out as win or each way value.

Berry Edge has a sole win over this Course and Distance but that was in softer going and that was in June last year. Miss Clementine is also a Course and Distance winner off a mark of 59 and runs off 61 today and has a big chance. Peripetela has placed 1st and 2nd on last two runs at Ripon but makes its Course debut here on a much different type of track. Bandys Angel was runner up for us last week, tipped at 33/1 and returning an SP of 16/1, if you wanted a small e/w on any of the top 5 this would be the most likely but I'm not totally convinced the better drying ground will suit it. Shes Got Bottle fired here over a shorter trip in a Classified race last time and would be the one with the most scope to improve.

Hopeman Harbour has shown glimmers of form and the addition of first time headgear may eek out some improvement and Ruby Port is a 3 year old Maiden whose debut was at this trip and who has dropped down to 7 furlongs then a mile and now back to this trip and that makes it of minor interest.

The one who really caught my eye at the price though was TROMSO.

TROMSO is a big price and has an outside chance but the form is worth close consideration. Its best run by far was here on its penultimate run finishing runner up to Dandys Angel. Back here and at the price it's worth a small each way bet as its hard to back any of the top 5 in the market each way with any confidence and certainly for win purposes.

SHRAPNEL - Tromoso

NORTHERN - Beverley 5.10 1 mile 1/2 Furlong - Handicap - class 6 - 15 run

A number of these are upped in trip or have never really shown any worthwhile form so far.

Bearwith is the one to beat on form analysis with recent figures of 1-4-3-1- off marks from 54 to 57 and it runs off 59 here. Captain Corelli was runner up in this last year but runs off 5lbs higher.

The pair that stand out at the prices are MOTORAJEL who has an excellent Course and Distance record, rarely running a bad race and off a nice mark and some enhanced places it really will be very disappointing if we don't get a place return at least.

Have a long look too at the grey filly STRIPZEE. It won and was runner up in mid June and early July in both 2021 and this year (Ian has very interesting views of fillies when in season and seasonal cycles). So when I see form figures of 2-1 including a Course and Distance off 57 this year and 1-2 in the same period last year, which is stand-out form over the rest I am somewhat convinced of that strategy.

So a runner up effort last September off a mark of 64 really caught my eye, especially as it followed a last place effort the time before, a fact mirrored today. It's big odds but an angle worth following with a small investment in a poor race. A finish in the top 6 would be indicative of a relative success in terms of analysis.
