Ayr - Monday 27th February

By UK Flat / AW (Northern)

NORTHERN - Ayr 3.50 Handicap Hurdle - Class 4 - 2 miles 4 and 1/2 furlongs - 15 run - Good to Soft

The best betting heat of the day with 15 runners and some enhanced places.

FOSTER'SISLAND is dropped in Class and has Course and Distance winning form here and hasn't been performing too badly in Class 2. It's notable that Hammond puts up a capable 10lbs Claimer and I expect the horse to place here at the very least. The course and distance win saw it dead heat with GLENTRUAN who opposes again on slightly worse terms. He looked like he was really running in to some decent form last time and will surely again be a major threat.

There are plenty of dangers though, So Many Roads is upped 5lbs for a nice win last time, my main niggle is that this won't be nearly as heavy and sticky Going wise. Moonlight Spirit is risky as it can and has bled a few times but is talented IF it's physically 100%. Barony Legends is in the Tracker and is a dark horse back over Hurdlesafter some poor jumping over the bigger fences, one not discounted lightly. Minella Youngy is also in the Tracker on Irish form, now in the UK it gets its ground and may be better left handed and another with a sporting chance. Finally another Tracker horse in Coral Blue who won last time but who I feel may be burdened now off a mark of 100.

There are a pair at bigger odds who I found very hard to split, LISSEN TO THE LADY has wins at Kelso off marksof 89 and 93 over 2 miles and 6 furlongs so won't be stopping up the straight here off a mark of 96 with a nice 7lbs claim, if we ignore the run though of OKOVANGO DELTA is horrible dead ground at Doncaster last time, the previous win was very impressive off a mark of 105 and again a 7lbs Claimer reduces the revised markof 107. I frankly can't split them at all but if you wanted an extra option in the race to 4 or 5 enhanced places I would not put you off either of them!

TIPS - (1) Foster'sisland / (2) Glentruan /  (3) - see notes Lissen To The Lady + Okovango Delta

NORTHERN - Ayr 4.25 - Handicap Hurdle - Class 5 - 3 miles and 1/2 furlong - 12 run - Good to Soft

Some old favourites in here and on balance of all the form it's hard not to back JESSIEMAC who is in the Tracker and whose course and distance form and mark today are compelling. Howzat Hiris and Follow That are also in the Tracker but I'm not sure of the current form of either at the moment nor the trip and race conditions. I have equal stamina concerns about Joanna I'm Fine and whilst Atomic Angel is wonderfully consistent at the sort of price I preferred Jessiemac.

If there is an improver in here I think it might be SEPTEMBER DAISY for the Alexander team, it looks to be slowly running in to forn and the trip may well eek out a bit more improvement and if you want a Tricast with the 2 selections then Atomic Angel is the obvious play.

TIPS (1) Jessiemac / (2) September Daisy.
