WEXFORD 7.15 - Handicap Chase - 3 miles 1 and 1/2 furlongs - 16 run (reserves) Good
A decent and pretty deep field contest this race. Sea Aster is in form and the one to beat but plenty have realistic chances so I'm happy to take the favourite on. Avec Espoir won for us last time at 16/1 winning by a large margin but a whopping penalty suggests he won't get away with such a soft lead this time. Goodnightgodbless is always one that can pop up and was considered, but three really stand out for me as value bets.
FAVORI LOGIQUE is in good form and stands close examination on its own merits, the fact that the yard is in the midst of a hot spell too adds to that confidence. TEMPTATIONINMILAN got caught in the fog here at the last meeting and it's hard to assess that form other than to note the horse was spotted staying on well as it came out of the mist and probably needed that run and will come on considerably for it. Finally at big odds is Elliots veteran HARDLINE a Course winner here and on a very nice mark these days and the sort who usually runs well enough to think it can find a level it can again be competitive off and an enhanced place would not be a surprise. SLIGO 8.02 Handicap -1 mile 5 and 1/2 furlongs - 14 run - Yielding
A Course that's well worth a visit for the scenery alone.
Red Ball Of Fire, Tudor Manor and Itsalonglongroad are all in some sort of decent form and strongly considered here but just missed my final top 3 ratings. Intend is one at a big price who should now be race fit and who wasn't lightly discounted either. This is a Coure for track specialists though with its turns and tight nature and my top 3 are really page jumpers for that reason.
FUTURUM REGUM was a winner for us last time out and despite a penalty is the one I think they all have to beat. GLYDE RANGER is a Course and Distance winner winning this race last year off a mark of 55 and runner up here in May off a mark of 60 and runs off 62 with a 5 lbs Claimer and WAR THUNDER is another Course and Distance winner off a mark of 47 who turns up today off a mark of 52 that reflects that win, but with a good 5lbs Claimer booked (Sean)
