Uttoxeter 2.25 Handicap Chase - Class 4 - 2 miles 4 furlongs - 17 run - Good (sunny)
A competitive field with a pretty short priced Skelton favourite in Get Up Mush @ 3/1. This one has won and been runner up in a couple of small field races here, an obvious favourite, I don't think it's completely bomb-proof, so if you want a win saver and can get 7/2 or 4/1 then a sensible option to consider.
At the other end of the market are a few who have either shown little form or any recent form but a couple are worth keeping an eye on I think , so I've added -: Coqolino, who showed early promise for Gordon Elliott but who didn't really develop on from that but who is now with Ben Haslam who has a knack of refreshing such types and Somespring Special, who is on a winning handicap mark but who has moved from Anthony Honeyball to Chris Gordon, another with a knack of improving horses - to the TRACKER from today. I would hope that both could be winning in the coming few months but not today.
The likes of Crypto Currency and Envious Editor are at the top end of the market and have shown some promise, as has Peking Rose, who runs off top weight in only its second Handicap Chase. They look dangers but don't over enthuse me. I will be wary of Leading Force, for whom a marked drop in trip, might see a far better run.
I'm most keen though on 4 horses, two are rated well clear and another pair may be worth punting for enhanced places.
In order of preference, BAGHEERA GINGE for the Twiston-Davies yard has shown plenty of promise and I think you can ignore the last run, a likely prominent pace angle horse and Sam does have a metronomein his head around this quirky track that can throw up Course specialists who are more than often ridden by jockey's who can plot a course round here and get the pace and cut the corners. BEGIN THE LUCK is in very solid form of late, deserves a win and should again bt very competitive.
I think too that STEPPENWOLF may be about to take a step forwards for the Pipe yard, this ex Gavin Cromwell horse hated Bangor On Dee last time, but many don't seem to run well there, but on previous evidence looks a promising type and off a mark of 117, it will be disappointing if it's not in the first 5 home. One who has more exposed form is FAT SAM, this one has dropped a long way in the weights but may find a level it can revive off, we've seen a few lately of that type and I have a hunch that this one could outrun it's Odds and put up an improved performance here, if you want the 4th option.
