Royal Ascot Day 1 - Tuesday 18th June

By SP2A Analysis

TIP RACES-:

2.30 Queen Anne Stakes - Group 1 Class 1 - 1 mile - 14 run G/F

There are 3 well fancied French runners in here , hands up I'm not great on French form , but having looked at it the fact we're running on Good to Firm suggests they aren't great market value. If one or more beats me, I'll take it on the chin.

Three of the home raiders stand out for me and indeed this looks the best betting heat of the day to me.

TOP RATED is AUDIENCE who romped home in the Lockinge and was visually very impressive. It may well have had the run of the race there but the form looks solid to me. I found it hard to split DOCKLANDS and WITCH HUNTER both of whom have Course winning form here, DOCKLANDS over this trip and WITCH HUNTER over 7 furlongs, both have a liking too for Good to Firm. With concerns about the French horses I am therefore stretching convention as I think the early prices are GOOD value so I'll invest in all three. (TA)

3.05 Coventry Stakes - Group 2 Class 1 - 2 year old - 6 furlongs - 23 run

I think ANDESITE has everything going for it here. A high draw adds to my confidence, the Yard excel with 2 year olds and unless there is a big improver in here I can't see ANDESITE out of the first 3 with luck in running unless the draw is massively against it. At massive odds I think 23 Zminature @ 80/1 could shock a few but for the second pick, I'll go with form but also the prowess of the Yard with 2 year olds and here and look at one with a lower draw to hedge my bets and the ideal candidate is THE ACTOR for Richard Hannon. The horse has been a bit "fizzy" so far but should have learnt from 2 runs and I think the step up from 5 furlongs on visual evidence and pedigree will see considerable improvement and the speed rating is very high compared with others in the race.  (Northern)

------

5.05 Ascot Stakes - Handicap Class 2 - 2 miles 4 furlongs - 20 run

I could follow the market here and all of the money for Mullins and Elliott. There are some tried and tested UK horses more exposed but more proven at the trip. How form the Going is by race time if the sun really warms up is an unknown.

The percentage Irish call is NUSRET for the young O'Brien and I think this horse has scope and a nice market value, of the older more exposed UK horses, then I will have a more speculative punt on TEMPORIZE who strikes me as a sure stayer who will love the big field and whilst it may be a sitting duck up the straight if its a slowly run tactical affair, I think some of these can and will make it a true paced race and TEMPORIZE could nich an enhanced place at nice e/w Odds.
