Perth - Sunday 30th August
By National Hunt UK (Robin T)
Robin is interested in 2 races and here are his observations.
Robin - Perth 3.15 Perth Gold Cup - Class 2 Handicap - 3 Miles
A decent race for this type of year and a pair with some winning Course and Distance form catch the eye.
Both appear to be a bit out of form but this more suitable Going and more fitness after a few runs may see a return to form and I think a small Tracker bet on both could give us a place return and either could win on their Course credentials.
RED GIANT is a Course and Distance winner, is below that winning mark, won on Good to Yielding in Ireland, so won't mind the cut in the ground but best form is on Good Going so any drying won't be a negative either. I think it can run a big race here.
SOUPY SOUPS is another proven over course and distance, best runs have been right handed on Good to Soft and another off a nice handicap mark.
TRACKERS - Red Giant + Soupy Soups - both 1/2 point each way
Robin - Perth 5.00 Handicap Chase - Class 5 - 2 and 1/2 miles - 15 run
A lower grade but nice field and sure to be competitive.
Sword of fate is one I want to keep a long term eye on in this grade.
ORIONINVERNESS has won fresh and has developed a tendency to run best races fresh and then regress. A Course and Distance winner off for 178 days from a Yard where they invariably need a run. Thats reflected in the price, but the proof is clear, it is a horse best caught fresh so I'll have a Tracker bet.
GRAYSTOWN is my idea of a nice each way punt. Stuart Coltherd can ready one and prepare one, everything stacks up, running to fitness now, perfect trip and Going and off a very nice mark. I'll be disappointed if not bang in contention at the last.
TIP - GRAYSTOWN - 1 point each way / TRACKER - Orioninverness - 1/2 point each way
