Newbury Thursday 9th June

ROBIN - NEWBURY 1.00 + 1.35 - Class 5 Apprentice Handicap - 1 mile 2 furlongs - Good > Good to Soft

There are 2 Divisions here and they actually look good betting heats with some each way value to be had, and with a bit of cut in the ground some previous form pointers look to have found a few worth a small investment.

1.00 -:

I narrowed this down to 5 horses and of those whilst I think that Remedium and Daphne May can outrun nice e/w odds they just failed to make my final cut.

I really like FRANCISCO BAY for Ed De Giles, it's a distance winner and they reach for the hood and it looks to have a very solid chance with some enhanced places offered. MRS MEADER is a 22 race Maiden but has hit the crossbar on a number of occasions. I've had a good look back at a few of those races and it shows that the horse is genuine but just found one a bit better on each occasion. Ross Birkett rides for his mom and is a very competent Amateur and the horse deserves a win and could well get it here. MENIN GATE for Archie Watson has one of the better pilots in Brodie Hampson, its running at its best trip off a very nice mark and really has no excuses.

Staking wise I'll have a 1/2 point each way on MENIN GATE + MRS MEADER and a shrapnel bet on Francisco Bay

1.30-:

This is another competitive heat, I found it hard to leave Licit out as both Easterby brothers have a great record at Newbury in this type of race but the price doesn't allow much e/w wriggle room so I'll hope to trump it with one of my selections running at bigger odds. Both My Brother Mike who has some solid back form and Gert Lush who will surely come on for seasonal debut and who has decent form at the trip on this type of ground look real dangers but I just preferred THERMAL for Gary Moore who should strip fitter today and looks very solid off this mark at best trip. I have to admit knowing nothing about the jockey, but a quick look sees a record of 2 wins from 10 starts so obviously she has a degree of capability that Gary Moore trusts. MAFIA POWER has won at the trip and placed 4 times for Richard Hannon when ridden by De Souza off marks in the mid 70's so a mark of 70 here looks very appealing.

Staking wise I'll have 1/2 point each way on MAFIA POWER and THERMAL, if you want a bit of shrapnel on one of the others I'd just favour My Brother Mike.
