Market Rasen 2.40
By National Hunt UK (Robin T)
Market Rasen 2.40 Summer Plate - Group 3 - 2 miles 5 1/2 furlongs - Handicap - 16 run
A competitive heat as always but in baking sun and drying ground it's quite possible we could see a race where a horse or two get away, gets the fractions right and stays at the front and turn the race into a bit of a lottery like last year, with 90% of the field never really given a chance by an enterprising ride from the front.
Jumping and accuracy is key in these conditions and I narrowed down to a short list of 3.
The 9lbs penalty just puts me off THATS A GIVEN, always travelling well at Newton Abbot when winning last time and looks sure to be suited by these conditions, a worthy reserve and Tricast Perm horse should either selection not make it.
SOLOMON GREY was running well enough when falling last time out, was 3rd in this last year, best of the rest in terms of the pace and although running off a mark a few pounds higer, that Course form suggests they will have learned a tactical esson and won't be caught out again.
The other is strong travelling FRANCKY DU BERLAIS who ran well in defeat last time and who comes from a Yard who focus much of their activity on these better Summer Jumping races. Should be able to just sit off the pace and strike late and a confident each way selection.
TRACKERS - Solomon Grey + Francky Du Berlais.
