Goodwood 2.50

By National Hunt UK (Robin T)

Goodwood 2.50 - Chesterfield Cup - Handicap - Class 2 - 1 mile 2 furlongs - 16 run - Good to Soft

We have to start here with the Johnston horse, Outbreak, simply because the Yard have won 4 of the last 9 runnings of this race and usually have at least 2 entrants. That this is the sole one this year and is also upped in trip with stamina to prove suggests that they are either very confident or don't have anything else suitable, which would be very surprising. I can't quite work it out to be honest so we'll watch and see without investment.

It will be interesting to gauge ground but with a lot of rain overnight into tomorrow it may only hold for today so I'm assuming very much on the soft side of good but drying a little today before the deluge comes.

I'll take on the Haggas ex Frency placed Derby horse based on 2 UK runs and also Eagles Way for the Baronet Prescott (not John) who was very upwardly mobile last year but in deeper here and little wriggle room each way and would not be a confident win tip. Pride Of America was an excellent winner for us last time advised at 33/1 and will put up a good fight but i rather feel that was the target in the conditions on the day. Haunted Dream just missed out on an investment and has very solid each way credentials and would be a reserve in the event of a non runner.

The 3 I most like against the field are LORD PROTECTOR who is draw ideally in Stall 5, running in to form based on evidence of last run and surely no excuses here. MOKTASAB will never get a better opening to win a good race in my opinion, no doubt we'll have to put up with Redknapp before the race but putting that aside, I think everything falls into place here and really no excuses. At bigger odds I'm very taken by SOTO SIZZLER who has Course winning form, has won at the Distance and on Good to Soft. It'll need to find a safe passage from the back of the field and that's b=never easy here but I think it may do that either down the rail at the cutaway or out wider and the softer it is the less the reliance on early pace here which certainly applies on Good to Firm

Tips (1) Lord Protector / (2) Moktasab / (3) Soto Sizzler
