Cheltenham 4.30

ROBIN - Cheltenham 4.30 - Handicap Chase Class 3 - 3 miles 1 furlong - 20 run - Good to Firm (heavy rain so could go Good to Soft or softer by race time)

 

There could be a whole host to take out of this in hindsight after the event but I am pretty confident in 2 in here in particular.

 

Let's work through them though and try to categorise.

 

At the top end of the market, Powerful Position improved markedly last year, (as did the Yard!) going from a mark of 83 to 113. It holds a favourites chance and at 5/1 would be an ideal e/w banker IF you want it. Bermeo won this in 2020 but has been out of form for considerable periods since. Light Flickr / Jony Max / Go On Chez/ On Springs and Anightinlambourn can all win races this season but in my opinion conditions and race fitness may prevent that today.

 

I think The Newest One, Jimmy The Digger, Earth Furies, Super Citizen and Old Town Garde are certainties for my season long TRacker but again, I think the trip, underfoot conditions and race sharpness is against them today. Ask Cory is probably the one I will track that I'm most keen to see as this ex De Bromhead inmate could win some nice races in the South West quite soon for Kayley Woolacott.

 

The one at the biggest price who I will have a small shrapnel bet on is NICK LOST, one of several from Ireland and this one has form at this trip and in soft ground in Ireland and certainly one of the better pilots.

 

I am quietly confident though in a pair who I feel will be trained to the day and ready to run to their merits who tick all the right boxes too.

 

MADERA MIST has a Course win at a furlong further than this so we know it can get the trip and run up the hill with some purpose. Its OK in Good to Soft and Soft and although 10lbs above that win mark is both progressive and crucially has had a run already and will definitely be the better for it. HUNTSMANS JOG comes from a Yard that traditionally have them fit to win, traditionally do well at the Autumn Fixtures here and who never seem to stop having winners.
