Doncaster 2.10

 

I think Draw wise the best place at Doncaster is to have a rail, preference on Good or Good to Firm tends to be Stands side (High) but a pitch on the far side can help too.

 

The top of the market looks solid with the likes of the in-form and progressive Harrow and Ever Given and I also fear I'm A Gambler as a live danger.

 

Hannon runs 5, Balding and Johnston have several entries too, nothing from the Richard Fahey yard at all.

 

I looked at form but also scope and some potential and the extra 1/2 furlong on this beautifully flat galloping track may be a key factor with a bit of stamina in the pedigree to match early and tactical speed.

 

I narrowed it to 5 a nice e/w prices.

 

Spitting Feathers is drawn in 5 and the Yard have a good record in this race but I'm just not convinced about the stamina angle with this one but fear it. Robasta for Andrew Balding is drawn in Stall 17, highly tried so far, this looks slightly easier and I'd be disappointed if it's not in the first half dozen home but just missed out on being a tip/tracker investment - a reserve if we have a non runner for sure.

 

My 3 against the field in preference order are-:

 

SYSTEM - Drawn 13 for Richard Hannon, very solid form and looks one of the more likely in terms of the trip and conditions of the race and will be very disappointing if not in the place money at least.

 

SYMPHONY PERFECT is another Hannon inmate, nothing to hide in terms of the mark as this will be it's 8th run but placed efforts in 2 big field handicaps give it a definite and important experience advantage and another who really should be troubling the judge at the business end of the race.

 

BOONDOGGLE is drawn 19, from Mark Johnston yard with Nicola Currie in the saddle, returned from a short break last time after 2 early runs, that's not a normal Johnston tactic as he usually runs them every few weeks, so it may be one that's been laid out for some Autumn races and given 4-6 weeks in the field to strengthen up...intriguing and a run at the weekend should have it spot on.
