Ayr 4.10 Bronze Cup

By Irish Racing (Sean aka Placespotter)

PLACESPOTTER - Ayr Bronze Cup 4.10 -: 3 TOMMY G @ 16/1 + 15 CAPTAIN JAMESON @14/1 + 20 KENNY THE CAPTAIN @ 16/1

(ALL 1/2 point each way - SKYBET and PADDY POWER go odds to 6th place - numerous others to 5th place - will settle to 5th place)

24 of the 25 run, the favourite is Gabriel The Devil from the Fahey yard, looks to have an outstanding chance but the yard are not firing on all cylinders and haven't been for a few weeks; so I want to take him on. The big sprint race yesterday suggested it paid to race prominently and indeed that has always been my view of this track. It looks that middle to high is the place to be and this I think is a race for tougher exposed horses rather than 3 year olds, a few have obliged though and there is one I am particularly keen on.

The likes of Adams Ale seem to run fresh and could run a big race after a decent break, John Kirkup and Soldiers Minute could run well a more unexposed types off nice potential marks and I would be very keen on My Amigo but for the draw, but I think I have a nice trio in TOMMY G; CAPTAIN JAMESON and KENNY THE CAPTAIN. They all have form at the trip, all have form on soft Going and drawn in  9 Tommy G; 15 Captain Jameson and 20 Kenny The Captain, they give me a nice spread on exactly the right part of the track I think; and in terms of age, we have a very progressive 3 year old in Captain Jameson, a 5 year old in Tommy G in the form of his life and probably at its peak, and a very solid and well handicapped older horse in Kenny The Captain.

You will get those Tipsters and Punters who whoop and yell when winning one of these big field Sprints, fact is they are a bit of a lottery; you get the advantage though of relatively big prices and also enhanced odds and on a day with a lot of juvenile races and a fair few weather invariables, worth a speculative few bob and if the logic works, we should get a very decent run for our money from all 3 selections, win; place or lose though, the perspective should remain that this is a race for those balloted out of the main Gold and slightly lesser Silver Cups, and although officially a Class 2 race, by definition of the balloting out, is stacked with horses occasionally in Class 3 but many of whom would be found in Class 4 races.
