Roscommon 6.30
By Irish Racing (MG)
MICHAEL - Roscommon 7.30 - Handicap Chase - 2 miles 5 and 1/2 furlongs - 16 run - Heavy > Soft
I thought this was the most competitive of the 3 big field handicaps and a considerable number have chances.
I'm happy to take on a few at the compacted top end of the market, Seskin Flyer is up 6lbs but more concerning is the step up in trip in this soft ground, Norwig should be suited by a drop in trip but far less so by the underfoot conditions, Tick Along has an obvious each way chance but is another who may not like the Going, The Eye Of Tulla rarely runs the same trip on consecutive runs and I'm not sure on that basis whet the best trip is, the main hope would be that they may suddenly find it at an intermediate distance like this. Agirlcalledchloe has shown some promise but may be best watched and Glenabo Bridge is in the Tracker but not jumped Chase fences in 4 years from what I can see in the form analysis.
I have a shortlist of 4 therefore including a couple at big prices.
ROYAL JUNIPER has a 3 mile P2P and ran eye catchingly well last time and seems to be getting the hang of things. That proven stamina in these sort of underfoot conditions and being one of the few with some scope make it a confident each way selection. SOME WOMAN has also got 3 mile P2P form in ground that will make this a test of stamina and the trip, Going and mark and the jockey booking all add to quiet confidence.
At bigger odds I will definitely have some shrapnel on CHAINOFCONSEQUENCE who has shown an aptitude for the trip and ground over Hurdles and who seems to be slowly getting the hand of the bigger fences and this is a lovely and fair track to jump round with not too many obstacles per circuit. COURTING VICKIE has a big priced win at this sort of trip in soft Going off a mark of 79, runs off 83 with the booking of JJ Slevin really catching the eye!
Tips (1) Royal Juniper / (2) Some Woman / (3) Chainofconsequence / (4) Courting Vickie
