Newmarket 4.00

MICHAEL - Newmarket 4.00 Bunbury Cup - Class 2 - 7 furlongs - 18 run - Good to Soft - Rain

I think that on the visual evidence yesterday and on past evidence from researching meetings on summer Soft here, middle to high may be the best Draw option.

Obviously every horse has a chance in this quality field but I narrowed down to around half a dozen in terms of form, mark, draw and Going.

I think the top 5-6 in the Betting look very strong and I'll come on to them shortly.

Of the rest Spangled Mac is progressive but drawn low, Shining blue is unexposed but unproven on the likely surface, Sheets of Gold is very progressive too but upped in Class, all three are genuine dangers. I think the draw may not be ideal for Ropey Guest, Popmaster won yesterday, Gorak looks to be on a ridiculously high handicap mark, and Accidental Agent whilst never one to rule out should outrun odds at a big price but would be a surprise winner in this depth of field.

At big odds I think THE GATEKEEPER and Cryff Turn are well worth very close examination. The latter runs with a 6lbs penalty though but THE GATEKEEPER is well worth some shrapnel, a Rowley MIle winner in the past with an interesting draw and not adverse to some cut in the ground.

It's hard though to look beyond, AWAAL, BIGGLES , BLESS HIM, Montassib and Star Of Orion. All look well handicapped, all should appreciate conditions and the only deciding factor for me is the Draw as I think the selections drawn High should be involved on pace angles and possibly the best bit of turf as opposed to Montassib and Star Of Orion drawn in 8 and 6 respectively. IF I'm wrong about the draw then it would be no surprise if either of those pair won.

TIPS (1) Awaal / (2) Biggles / (3) Bless Him - (4) shrapnel - The Gatekeeper.
