Goodwood Day 1 Tuesday 30th July

By Irish Racing (MG)

1.50 - Unibet handicap, Class 2 - 10 Furlongs and 17 run.

The draw will dominate talk all week on the round course. A low draw is best as long as you can get in to a prominent position and dominate, a wider draw can be a positive if you bide your time and get a nice run down the outside but you will hear the phrase "traffic problems" more this week here than any other.

I narrowed down to 4 to really focus on. Johnny Drama could be anything really, a win would be no surprise but I'm not sure of the value in a tough race like this where I want something battle hardened and with some Course form. AQUARIUM fits the Jonston win profile at this meeting, Franny Norton is superb round here, the draw is a negative but this Yard can "breaks the rules" in terms of the draw better than any other. VENTURA KNIGHT the other Johnston runner gets stall 3 and Ryan Moore, a cert to be the better of the pair from the Yard you'd think, I'm not so sure and of the pair will just side with AQUARIUM. The one I like most though is speculative and a big price and that's PLUTONIAN, a runner up in this last year, gets back to proper trip here, drawn 4 and ran off 97 last year and off 96 this year. It's been running at a mile, to possibly sharpen him up and possibly just getting that mark down, I think it will outrun its odds.

4.45 - Chelsea Barracks Handicap; Class 2 5 Furlongs and 14 run

A competitive 5 furlong Sprint but may have question marks and best to look near the top of the market I think. There are 2 that can be backed and stand out and I will aim for 2 places at least and hopefully one will win as they have outstanding form claims. MUTHMIR excels on fast downhill tracks very solid on form overall and a draw in 8 makes it tactically versatile whilst LORD RODDIFORD is a Course and Distance winner who could be peaking and running in to prime form and aimed specifically at this race and drawn 11. Neither will mind what happens ground wise during the day and should be right in contention.
