Cambridgeshire Newmarket 3.40

By Flat Turf UK (The Advisor)

Newmarket 3.40 Cambridgeshire Handicap - - 1 mile 1 furlong - 34 run

A typically tricky cavalry charge in which the experts and the market have seemingly decided a high draw is the place to be.

Certainly the majority of the form horses are drawn middle to high but it's never ideal to have all your eggs in one basket.

Of those drawn lower I think there are 2 clear candidates in top weighted BELL ROCK and more likely the consistent MONATHER. I can't find a place in the final 4 for either but will have a small shrapnel bet on MONATHER to cover the low side of the Draw.

Chichester won very well for us (SP2A) at Ayr last week and has been the subject of a massive plunge all week but I just don't think these are anything like as suitable conditions as he faced at Ayr.

Majestic Dawn who won the race last year will again be a danger drawn in stall 34 but a 10lbs raise since then just puts me off. Long Tradition in Stall 37 for Bin Suroor on handicap debut could be anything and a big run would not be a surprise and Trais Fluors who has little discernible form and out of Stall 31 for the Channon Team has been noted by several worthy experts and may run well at big Odds. The best of the Irish contingent may be RAISE YOU out of Stall 13 and a CD winner here as a 3 year old in a Listed race but one who has yet to truly fulfil early promise.

I'm left with a shortlist of 4 and in preference order they are-:

LUCANDER runner up in this in 2020, primed for the race I feel, gets a nice berth in Stall 28 and 3lbs better handicapped than in 2020 and Beckett and Crouch have delivered for me a few times lately too so a confident each way poke.

MAGICAL MORNING who comes from the Gosden team and I marginally prefer to their other runner Uncle Bryn (he looks nailed on a place too though) who has the look of a Group horse about him and anything that beats this one will win the race I'm sure.

ASTRO KING is very consistent in this Class and type of race for Sir michael Stoute, 17 may give some tactical options too Draw wise.

FANTASTIC FOX is a dark horse in some eyes drawn in 23 for Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni, has a lovely pedigree and one who I think has more scope than just about anything outside of Magical Morning in the race.

TIPS - Lucander + Magical Morning / TRACKERS - Astro KIng + Fantastic Fox
