All York Tips - Friday 23rd August

York 2.25 Lonsdale Cup - G2C1 - 2 miles 1/2 furlong 9 run - Good

Point Lonsdale has to prove stamina despite being favourite and Vauban hasn't clicked a few times lately so I think the each way value lies with Gregory and especially ALSAKIB and it'll be very disappointing if Andrew Baldings charge isn't very competitive here at around 7-8/1 and a win is certainly not out of range.

York 3.00 Gimcrack - G2C1 - 2 year olds - 6 furlongs - 10 run - Good

The higher numbers have started to figure on the Sprint track as the week has gone on, the rain will have done nothing to deter that trend and it'll be all about where the pace is and a horse with a will to win.

Karl Burke has had an excellent week, his ANDESITE has been put away and targeted at this race since a workmanlike win at the Dante meeting in May. The juvenile showed real battling qualities that day and the fat they have not been tempted to try elsewhere suggests a real plan. It cannot be emh=phasised just how important this historic prize is to Northern Trainers and Burke will have had a host of possible runners in this race. I'tt again be disappointing if the selection is not placed and certainly Burke will want to win this.

York 3.35 Nunthorpe Group 1 Class 1 - 5 furlongs - 13 run - Good

A few of these would have desperately wanted rattling Good to Firm ground. The overseas raiders especially.

The most compelling home form line is from Glorious Goodwood and despite the claims of Asfoora and Big Evs, I was really taken by the run in that race of BELIEVING and at the price I have compelling confidence that with luck in running on a Track that may suit it more than Goodwood that this one can reverse the form and win this race or at the very least run a place.

Pointers -

York 1.50 - a decidedly tricky opener and all have chances but the value must be wily veteran EUCHAN GLEN who is admirably consistent still and solid each way material. (North).

York 4.45 - lots of if's and but's here and the percentage call if you have to nail your mast to one at an each way price is ARABIAN ANGEL given the Yard form and the evidence of race course experience that not all of them have . (Carolyn)

YORK 5.20 - Handicap - Class 2 - 1 mile - 19 run

I can see the top 3 Mount Teide; Midnight Gun and Dosman on handicap debut running very well but none really tempt me into a win or an each way punt.  The one at big odds who most intrigues me is Apiarist, a Course winner last year but slow to come to hand this but the rain might boost its chances here. He was my 5th rated.

My top 4 though carry great confidence in to the race-:

TREASURE TIME was unlucky at Goodwood, drawn in Stall 1 is tactically the place to be over a mile here and Good ground is acceptable. NATIVE WARRIOR has placed at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood and cannot be left out of calculations on the basis of those runs. A slightly more speculative pair are SAILTHISSHIPALONE a bit of a York specialist, who has some very strong collateral form for Richard Fahey and one who will welcome less sting in the ground and USUARIO AMIGO , the only Maiden in the race but not for the want of trying in some deeper and tougher fields than this and another who has been in some good company and whose collateral form reads well and the addition of a visor adds to confidence.
