ELITE - David - Ascot 4.15 - Balmoral Handicap - Class 2 - 1 mile - Soft to Heavy 20 run
ORBAAN: Yard has a good record in this race in recent years and, of the trainer's 2 entrants, this mount is the choice of stable-jockey, Danny Tudhope. Has had mixed fortunes since joining this yard from Andre Fabre at the start of the year but won at York in July (off 3lbs lower) and raced with promise last time here when possibly given too much to do. He is 6lb better off with his conqueror that day (TEMPUS) here and was only beaten 3 lengths.
ALTERNATIVE FACT: All 3 career wins have come on soft ground and generally has a good record in such conditions. Dettori is an eye-catching booking in the saddle, having finished placed on both occasions he has ridden the horse in the past. Last time was over course-and-distance in the Silver Hunt Cup when he finished a creditable 3rd on ground that was possibly too quick for him. He was given a poor ride last time out at York, from a wide draw, but stayed on well in the final stages. He has won over further so his assured stamina should help here.
NJORD: Big improver who has gone up 41lbs in the handicap in the last two years and has run some good races in big field handicaps. Big plus here is the ground as he has done most of his good racing on soft ground or worse. Jessie Harrington would not send him over if she didn't think he had a chance and she has made a good jockey booking in Tom Marquand. This one is drawn low, unlike the other two picks, but if that's not too much of an inconvenience, he should run well and is weighted to reverse form with KEATS from his last run at Listowel last month.
Sorry again about the lack of usual in dept analysis, but massive thank you to David for not throwing in the towel after hours of pain-staking work was lost.
