Thursday 12th June

12 June 2025

Rainwater was a winner for us late last night, advised at 15/2, returning an SP of 11/2 and may be an appropriate name for a horse if you look at the weather forecast for the next few days.

It was a welcome win and gets us a step on the ladder to hopefully start to build up a sequence of profitable days as we head into what seems to be a very early Royal Ascot. The fact that the Epsom Derby, which is staged on the first Saturday in June, was on the latest possible date (7th) and Royal Ascot, which is traditionally the 3rd week in June, so starts on almost the earliest date in can be (Tuesday 17th) , by a quirk of fate shortens the dap, that is usually around 17-18 days, to the minimum almost 10 days.

A lot of rain is forecast today and tomorrow up the South and West side of the Country and a possible deluge is due in the South East on Saturday, one place that may escape the worst of it is York, where they race tomorrow and Saturday. We will swerve Fixtures in Ireland today and tomorrow due to what could be an absolute deluge and at Worcester tonight, where the Going may change significantly.

With few race options elsewhere, we looked long and hard at a 20 runner Sprint at Newbury, which should remain largely dry, but prefer instead a 3 year old handicap over the straight mile, with Carolyn having some form views based on form and pedigree in the 17 runner field.
