08 June 2025

My apologies if one of the mail group e-mails were delayed yesterday, I got a few messages and re-sent the file after 1pm so I hope you were able to "get on" or use the Members Paddock. We batch emails into batches of around 25 addresses (eases delivery speed and reduced delays and normally very few problems).

We saw an outstanding ride from Wayne Lordan (shades of Cauthan on Slip Anchor) to win the 2025 Derby yesterday on Lambourn and an equally enterprising ride and some spot on analysis from Carolyn to spot and identify LAZY GRIFF at 50/1 to finish runner up. She identified the stamina and soft ground pedigree lines and should the St Leger be run on soft ground later in the summer, he would appear a live contender. For a few seconds I just thought he may get a bit closer then he did at the 300 yard sort of mark, but a nice result. It may be wise not to give up yet on Stanhope Gardens not Damysus and it will be interesting to see whether they drop back to around a 10 furlong trip.

Vintage Clarets nicked an enhanced place in The Dash where a few palpably failed to handle the Course and the Conditions with Desert Cop seeming to try to hurdle the path across the Track early on.  A nice 1-2 with Small Fry at a short price and Dream Harder at 22/1 SP too later on the Epsom Card.

We will use Carolyn's expertise in the 2 year old category increasingly from now on, and also use her 2 year old form from last year in some interesting 3 year old races (like over the past 2 days) too. There is a Fillies Stakes race at Goodwood today (non handicap) that she has analysed and selections follow. The other interesting race today is a Handicap Hurdle over just short of 3 miles at Punchestown. The Going changes could deliver a lot of non runners at Perth so we've swerved there.
