Ludlow 4.10 - Mares Novices Handicap Hurdle - Class 5 - 2 miles 5 and 1/2 furlongs - 14 run - Good
At the top of the market we have 3 Mares from big yards who lack conclusive form but who have clear potential in Manala; Come On Babe and Rockola. All are around the 5/1 mark and very hard to separate and impossible to pick a winner out of them for a win bet and I actually think a winner may be lurking elsewhere.
My eyes were cast on 3 others of whom I think Miss Pearl could run a big race at odds around 20/1 and she was not easily left out of an investment. VARINIA just gets the top rated nod, she ran prominently to beyond this trip over a longer distance last time and if they get the fractions right I can see her leading them down the straight and putting pressure on the others to catch her. NOBODY'S PERFECT just got the nod over Miss Pearl as she is frankly inconsistent but as her last run was poor and her previous one was far better this strong travelling type upped in trip may just be on a going day. Perth 4.22 - Mares Handicap Hurdle - Class 4 - 2 miles 4 furlongs - 14 run - Good to Soft
Feach, Hay Meadow, Parisian Fashion, who may be the most progressive in the race and Little Miss Dante, who might find this a bit easier than some recent assignments, head the market and again it's not easy to split them in terms of win or each way value at a tight top end of the market.
Wednesday Addams had her best run so far here last season and that is an interesting profile at a nice e/w price and she was considered . Magnolia, an ex French horse with plenty of scope to improve, was my 3rd best rated and she is one we will TRACK forwards.
My favoured pair though with plenty going to 4th place with 14 runners are SUNDAY SOLDIER who won in April and early November last season, so her season is about right to deliver again and who might just have been primed for this race at a nice 8-9/1. BISHOP HILL not an obvious name for a mare it has to be said, has a solid Course and Distance profile for Lucinda Russell and has every chance of running a place again at least her on this often Course specialists track . Taunton 6.30 Novice Handicap Hurdle - 2 miles 3 furlongs - 11 run - Good to Firm
Lara Kaleo, a handicap debutant on only its 3rd run is the warm favourite and could be anything but not backable at 3/1 or lower on evidence so far. Karakoy at double figure odds was easily the best rated of those at double figure odds and tied in closely with Sevenofus; a runner up of 2 of its last 3 races and on an ideal mark at optimum trip and
Bruce Gobbler an unexposed P2P winner at this intermediate trip who looks the one to beat overall.
I'll have a win saver at any price above 4/1 of BRUCE GOBBLER and think KARAKOY might just be a better price and each way option than Sevenofus. A canny T/Cast perm may be a small side bet option, especially if the favourite isn't as good as the market thinks. (Robin)
