Redcar 3.27 - Handicap - Class 3 - 1 mile - 12 run - Good to Soft
The straight mile here takes some getting, not just the horse's stamina but the ability of the Jockey not to commit too soon especially as the TRack has some subtle hollows and ridges that can unbalance a horse.
At the top of the market is the Davis O/Meara trained Barefoot Warrior, on handicap debut after a handful of runs I do think anything lower than 5/2 in not great value against some seasoned experienced and decent types. Classic Encounter, the second favourite, has run mostly on the AW and on only its second run this scopey type could be frankly anything and again, I fancy something with a bit more experience.
Great Blasket has run his best races over straight 1 mile tracks but on past evidence may just need the run.
Tim Easterby, not normally renowned as being a fast starter and one whose horses generally come on for their first run of the season runs a few but of them I think that the outsider of the three in the market of his charges could have a sporting each way chance. BARLEY has run well fresh before, has form at a mile and also up to 10 furlongs and you'd think they have done enough on the gallops for that latent stan=mina to come into play here. He's well handicapped and one I think can run a place at least at nice Odds.
Richard Fahey didn't generate the number of winners last season that he normally does and has tended to shift from quantity a bit more towards quality in the past few seasons and some of his prolific handicappers have peaked and declined at the same time . He runs REIDH and at 20/1 plus this one is another who on past evidence is best caught fresh early in the season, he's 2lbs below his last winning mark and again, worth an each way investment. (RJ)
