Newbury 3.35

Newbury 3.35 Handicap Hurdle - Class 3 - 3 miles 52 yards - 13 Run (Good to Soft)

A race with a fair few who have struggled recently over Fences coming back to hurdles for what looks like a confidence booster and although all have decent Hurdles form none are on a mark that jumps off the page in this tight contest.

Dhowin who we tipped on its penultimate run when finishing 5th and who fell early in its last race where we tipped the winner Polish at 14/1 is the favourite here. It's a solid and worthy favourite but at the Odds represents "win only" value and this might be a race with a few very unexposed horses in it. Howling Milan is near the top of the market having been runner up in the race won by Polish and rates a danger but another who may be vulnerable to an improver. Present Chief for Jonjo is a very solid and consistent handicap yardstick for the race, holds strong each way claims for consistency but again you'd be a bit disappointed if it obliged as it is pretty exposed handicap wise.

Roque It could be anything for PFN and a bold run would not surprise but has to prove it has the stamina for the trip. Colonial Dream is similarly unexposed, big possible potential but unproven yet at the trip. If either of those won it would be no surprise at all and they are horses to follow win or lose today as they will pay their way as decent Grade handicappers.

The one I most likely in the "scope and potential" category though is OUTONPATROL for Alan King. It has the form advantage of proof of stamina having won a nice 3 mile P2P, it then won on heavy Going at Warwick off a mark of 114, it comes off a break but did win off a 291 day break when winning at Warwick and with proven stamina and with a win at a venue that takes some jumping at a nice each way box, looks solid each way material.
