Fakenham 4.20

ROBIN - Fakenham 4.20 Norfolk National - Handicap Chase - Class 3 - 3 miles 5 furlongs - Good to Soft (rain)

This is a very sharp left handed track and suits course specialists and when it rains it can really get quite heavy very quickly. it's more of a stamina test than other tight tracks and one for a specialist horse.

I've trip and Going niggles over the favourite Duc De Beauchene at the price, Midnight Mary is certainly proven at the Track but upped markedly in trip although the booking of Bryony Frost is the usual big advantage. Wake Up Early has Course and Distance winning form off a mark of 99, runs off 116 with a 5lbs Claim here and the biggest danger to the selections I think.

Jony Max is interesting given connections but has stamina to prove, Shetland Bus has some Course form but the trip and rain would be a significant concern. At big odds Coup De Pinceau could be an interest shrapnel bet for those that like to play that end of the market in that it has won over 4 miles and on soft Going in the distant past and off a low mark based on regressive form is the sort who could plod round in to an enhanced place if there are a number of mishaps in running.

The 3 that most interest me are TOMMIE BEAU who won this last year off a mark just 1lbs lower than today, it would be a shock if this wasn't a target race and as it's OK on soft ground too, I can't see any reason not to invest a full stake. I'll split another between FLYING VERSE who has won over 3 miles and 7 furlongs and who seems to excel on tighter tracks and OK unless the heavens really open on rain softened ground. I also think D'JANGO will find this much more its right level after being over-tried a few times lately. If it can get in to a rhythm and enjoy being back in the right company it's got plenty of decent form at this sort of trip and on soft going to play a significant part in proceedings.
