Punchestown 3.10
MICHAEL - Punchestown 3.10 Handicap Chase - 3 miles 7 furlongs - 16 run - Yielding
I've been up and down, left and right, absolutely right back over every run of each horse in this race and can only find a couple who have cast iron proof of stamina over the trip of 3 miles and 7 furlongs in Yielding ground. Whilst any of the 3 mile specialists could be coaxed round to get the trip in the pudding type Going I think that would make it a lottery to pick which ones.
So, we'll split the usal stake on one horse between the pair I've identified as being the "stamina" horses. Neither is in great form but that both reflects in the price and also suggests they can outrun their Odds in to an enhanced place at least.
THE DABBLER was a distant runner up in this last year off a mark of 126, out of form since but the proof is there that it stays the trip, handles the Course and can be primed for the day, off a mark of 124 at an early 20/1 its impossible to write off. REGINA DRACONES has been in the Tracker since this race last year when it ran a lovely prominent race until making a crushing error 3 out and was pulled up before the finish. The form since hasn't been good at all but I've looked over that 2022 renewal several times and I'm convinced it would have placed had it not made the error. With the opposition having everything to prove in terms of stamina its another who I think has a better chance than the form and market suggests.
