Newbury 2.05
THE ADVISOR - Newbury 2.05 Handicap - Class 3 - 6 furlongs - 17 run - Soft > Good to Soft.
I'm drawn into this race for a few reasons. Firstly I think this is a fair Sprint track where on Good ground they tend to finish in an arrowhead formation, on soft and especially heavy they are more likely to be favoured by a high draw, and of Firmer than Good they are more likely to be favoured from a lower draw, but it's a track where I don't think there is any out and out bias.
There are also a number of potentially unexposed 4 year olds from whom we have yet to see their best and ultimate form and a few of those have had the snip in the winter and will clearly be quality Sprinters to enjoy over the next 3-4 seasons as a result. I also think that ability to handle some cut, race fitness and the stamina to get this tough 6 furlongs will be key assets and there are 4 I am particularly keen to focus on.
I think though that it is very much worth adding the likes of Bosh, an unexposed and gelded 4 year old for the Hannon team who was put away to mature very early last season, Zero Carbon, who only made a debut at 3 and has been brought along very patiently, Crazy Luck who is more exposed but who may just need the run and Popmaster, who is definitely a known performer who will surely be aiming at Royal Ascot, in to the TRACKER. I think all will win races this summer, hopefully not today but well worth noting and following.
Tanmawwy came close to an investment mainly on the excellent form of the Yard in these opening few weeks of the season and is a danger as is Faro De San Juan. I think the favourite GISBURN is the one they all have to beat here and I will back it as an each way banker at the early prices. The other pair that stand out of form, race fitness, handicap mark and tick every box are MARSHALL DAN who won last week, gets in here unpenalised and who has some solid Course and Distance form and BERNARDO O'REILLY who doesn't win as often as he should so deserves one and is sure to stripper fitter for a run and another with some solid Course and Distance form. They are drawn 8 and 2. There is one who is drawn high and at a big price and if that high draw is not a negative then I think a smaller stake on SWAYZE could give us a nice possible enhanced place return. Its won on soft at 5 furlongs, looking as it matures to be equally adept at 6 furlongs, has had 2 runs so fitter than many of these and just one of those that jumped off the page a little and my only real concern is the draw, which he can't help but I think well worth a small investment.
TIPS (1) Gisburn / (2) Marshall Dan / (3) Bernardo O'Reilly / (4) if you wish to enhanced places and lesser stake - 10 Swayze @ 25/1
