Sunday 29th June
Titian gave us an overdue and welcome win at York yesterday at double figure Odds, that followed a pair placed in the Northumberland Plate earlier, after a disappointing start to the Newcastle Card. The 25/1 win by Spirit Mixer in the big race wasn't a complete shock to us, and was probably one we let slip away.
The past few weeks has seen the sad loss of two greats of the Training game, Peter Easterby and Barry Hills. Both deserve a proper send off from us, and I will try to do so with some articles during the week. The tough dour hard working dyed in the wool Yorkshireman and the smart immaculately turned out Barrington "Barry" Hills were in some ways chalk and cheese, what defined their great careers though was their god given ability with horses and incredible work ethic. Both will be sadly missed and both leave a wonderful and multi generational legacy of off-spring still very active in the sport and with the next generations waiting.
There is a great Card at The Curragh today including the Irish Derby, we will watch it with interest with Michael still not in the right place to recommence his duties and emotions still raw across the Irish Sea. There is NH at Cartmel and Turf flat at Ffos Llas but we'll go to a decent Summer Jumping Card at Uttoxeter for tips in a couple of big field longer distance Handicaps.
