Tuesday 4th May

FAKENHAM 4.25 - Norfolk National - Handicap Chase - 3 miles 5 furlongs - Going Good (Rain)

A competitive field but with rain yesterday and more due today it could turn quite soft by start time.

There is a perception that this is an easy track and no great emphasis on stamina. Whilst it's flat with few undulations, the constant turning right and left round the figure of 8, does place an emphasis on rhythm and you'll often see horses come on and off the bridle here very quickly. I'm looking for proven form at the trip, a battling profile and some form in softer ground.

The horses at the top end of the market look solid and plenty to like about the in form Strictly Dancer, Friends Don't Ask, Game Line and particularly Robin of Sherwood. Would not blame anyone having a saver on RoS but i just fancy a couple more against this field in the changing conditions.

High Counsel is one in my Tracker who I looked long and hard at but just enough of a niggle at this trip to put me off but he'll be my reserve and Tricast horse if either selection didn't run.

At nice Odds in likely softening ground I can't leave out FINDUSATGARCOMBE who had a successful spell earlier in the year, will have been freshened up by a break, won off 99, went up to 109, back to a mark of 105 but every bit of rain will help and the trip is no issue. Most probably would have been a non runner on Good or Firmer, hopefully they turn up as if they do I can see it outrunning nice each way Odds and being a strong contender for a place at least.

LORD GETAWAY somewhat jumped off the page at me. It has won on heavy Going and whilst it's unlikely to be worse than soft that ground ability may come into play. It has placed at the trip at Sedgefield up and down those unduations so I have no stamina concerns either, ir should that be stamina excuses and I put in to my tracker after it's last run with a capital RTF running in to form. I'll be equally disappointed if this one is knocking on the door.

At Ayr in the 1.45 another Tracker horse, ex French and placed in a 3 mile P2P on British debut who also went in to my Tracker as RTF last time over this trip, which could definitely unlock untapped possibilities is CHRISTMAS IN USA. Its a competitive field but with enhanced places looks one to give us a good run for our money at nice each way Odds.
