Newton Abbot 5.00

Newton Abbot 5.00 Handicap Hurdle Class 5 - 2 miles 5 1/2 Furlongs - 15 run - Going - Good

The Going here should be genuinely Good with a bit of cut after a dry and sunny weekend preceded by some heavy rainfall late last week, so no excuses on the Going front at all.

The obvious favourite is Dubai Outlaw but I wan to take on anything with a win at Fontwell, as that's a quirky little unique track in many ways.

One I will flag up to track after today is DAN GUN , it's capable of winning, as it did for Fergal O'Brien off marks of 85 and 92, probably needs to get back below a mark of 90 and definitely it seems needs to go "right handed" so track for a return to a right handed track. Doras Field is another to keep an eye on, I think this is too far but back around 2 miles 2 furlongs is capable of picking up a race.

Quinto has some course form and never rule out the Frosts here, but may need to get used to Hurdles again very quickly!

My idea of a winner at a nice price is FREDDY FRANATAPAN, trained by Stuart Kittow, has won over 2 miles and 4 furlongs off a mark of 93 and wasn't stopping at the line, didn't get home over 2 miles and 7 furlongs last time, so this intermediate trip looks ideal. Tom Scu is up and back below a mark of 100, should give us a good run for our money with a bit of each way in there for a place saver.

ARTY CAMPBELL has tended to run over shorter over Hurdles but has form winning at this Distance, will be the fittest in the race after a Flat campaign, and running well enough in that sphere to hold very strong place claims if any of these are in need of the run.

TIP - Freddy Franatapan / Tracker - Arty Campbell
