We had a couple of nice placed horses (advised at 10 + 20/1 on the Patent yesterday) and with a lot of rain about at Ayr and precious little to enthuse about elsewhere; will have another 50p each way unit Patent today, plus a couple of "Mentions"

All of the selections have form on soft, form at the back of the season, on decent handicap marks and should give us a very good run for our moderate investment.

2.00 MAGIC CITY glimmers of running in to form last time, always been an Autumn horse; won off 77, at 1 mile, so stamina assured and nice mark of 79 favoured above Chai Chai who is a big danger; Golden Slam and Right Action (whose best seems to be in Spring).

2.30 I looked at the enigmatic Gworn and the solid Newstead Abbey and they may be worth a small Tricast but for the Patent think SILVERY MOON ticks every box, an Autumn horse, proven on Going and at the trip and undoubtedly, this will have been a season long target race.

3.05 Hard for me to split CHINESE SPIRIT who won last Autumn over 9 furlongs off an almost identical mark in Heavy Going and CARNAGEO who has ideal trip, nice handicap mark and finally gets preferred Ground and another whose best runs are often at the back end of the season. CARNAGEO for the Patent and the pair at 1/4 point each way as Mention tips.

5.20 BODACIOUS NAME may be a little high in the handicap BUT I can't see anything else in the race with its proven skills at the trip and in what by the lose of racing is likely to be pretty much "winter ground"; e.g wet, cut up and a real slog. On those terms the price looks very appealing.
