Saturday 14th July

At Newmarket in the Bunbury Cup at 1.40 I would strongly recommend a small single bet on both GILGAMESH and MAKZEEM if you wish to play any points on the race with a few selections. However, having looked long and hard at the race, I did keep coming back to a 33/1 shot, who "got under my punting skin" and on a busy day, could give us a lot of fun. The long shot poke could easily point at the likes of Love Dreams; Firmanent; Burnt Sugar; Cardsharp and Ice Lord; it is that kind of race but on one Course and Distance angle there are compelling reasons to think that MOUNTAIN RESCUE can run a massive race at 33/1. It has Course form on both Courses here; takes a drop in trip, runs off a very nice mark and its speed rating over Course when winning in August 2017 in identical conditions is "stand out". It is a track/course pick on that run and one other but I think exception value based on those.

At Ascot in the 4.10 I have 2 in my personal Tracker being CRICKLEWOOD GREEN and PARNASSIAN. The latter is probably best suited to a shorter trip but off a very nice mark and one to follow VERY closely, some may recall it is the horse initially blamed for the tragic death of a Stable Hand at Kempton last year, when initial thoughts were he had been kicked in the head by the horse. Later cctv evidence showed that the guy had suffered a massive brain hemorrhage; so it will be an emotional day when the horse does win. However; over today's trip and with CD form (won this last year) I think CRICKLEWOOD GREEN is over-priced. It ran no kind of race at favourite track Newbury last time, but never really got in to the race ad was considerably eased late on, its form in July-August is usually very good and strong form claims at a nice price.

Finally, at Newton Abbot; in the final race at 5.35 ILOVEMINTS is a sporting punt in a race where a few have chances and a few look too short given "too many chances". The best run this horse ever had was over a trip just short of this, running well and looking threatening until a late blunder, they went back in trip last time, no doubt I think to focus the horses mind on the Hurdles again, and it just looks an over-priced potential improver in a field where many have flattered to deceive and may not have the scope this one does.
